Yup looks the same as mine. I put pictures on page 4.
Looks way better than when it came from factory, I think.

Mine has been fixed for about 8000 miles. Knock on wood, no sign of oil leakage.

TheBeast - it took the dealer about 2 days to fix the cam seal. One day to fix, another to make sure it was fixed before giving it back to me. Don't wait, go get it done.

:frusty: Welp.... This is getting diagnosed tomorrow morning (I know what it is, so lets see if they're smart and fix it right the first time because I will go back for sure)... I was extremely clear on what my non-mechanic opinion is and he took extensive notes... Time will tell if the dealership will make it right... Thank goodness I'm still under warranty from what you guys said its like 2k. I had to pay for the rear engine seal on my Tacoma (2500 buckeroo's later).

They were awesome when I had my frame replaced on my Tacoma so lets see if they keep up the awesome dealership status.

So.... They concurred I have a leak on the cam tower thing both sides... They're taking my cab off Monday... Gonna verify it's the root cause. Gonna check rear engine seal... Gonna order some new cams and reseal or something like that so I have a loaner for 2 weeks or more... WTF! :annoyed:

Positive note... It's 100% covered so I said take your time and do it right

Why they taking off the cab?
    Easier to work on it?

They didn't remove the cab for mine either. It took a few days for the work because they didn't have the parts ready, however that happens.

My '13 with 56,000 on it was diagnosed yesterday. It goes in on the 25th for repair. I was told 3 days give or take and when I spoke with the tech he made no mention of removing the cab.

didn't appear on mine for the first 50K for sure. I just noticed it recently at 58,000 miles. One member here had it on his 2016 with only 3,000 miles...:notsure:

I stumbled across this thread and said hmmm let me check... Love this site!

I asked my Toyota advisor if I didn't read about this how would I have found this, the tech doing the work (the same guy who did my frame on my tacoma) happened to walk by and laughed saying "with the mess I saw looking from the top of your engine bay, it wouldn't have been long I would have a messy drive way and smell burning oil". That is when he said they're gonna tear it apart monday to ensure all the right parts get replaced and sealed properly.

You guys here are making me ponder to call and be a pain in the ass by questioning why they are removing my cab. I might just let it be... this site i have a love hate relationship with o_O...

I have the platinum extended so i'm covered for 7years/100,000 just in case it does happen ;) Pretty weird that its so inconsistent though, I mean a gasket is a gasket is a gasket.

I have the same warranty :)...the issue seems to be the way the grey sealant was applied at the factory...not the gasket
It could be one line was ok but the other one had issues..so some trucks have it and others don't

Someone tainted the sealant with E. coli! Digging in asses while on the job...it’s not just for vegetables anymore. Either way it’s a shitty job (pun intended).

Just got my tundo back today. Visible seal. They removed the cab to check rear engine seal. They also changed an eff ton of gaskets and orings on top of resealed cam towers. I spent an hour with a mirror, flash light, and a creeper. Visible signs of thorough job cleaning the engine. I'll update after a while

Mine went in Wednesday for the fix. Dealer called today to let me know everything was going as it should and truck will be ready some time tomorrow. I also had them change the serp belt and plugs.
