Get a Platinum, you won't regret it. I really like my instrument cluster with digital readout, and the LED's are light years better than my '17 halogens. Just threw coat #2 of wax on her. A teaser shot to help make your decision a little easier :)

Not my truck but definitely stock platinum wheels wrapped in Nitto Ridge grapplers. Looks like 295/55R20

biggest issue with the sport, its based on a SR5, so you are bound by the option/package list exclusive to the SR5 model. really wanted a limited since its not missing much in options/packages compared to a platinum, but the deal breaker was that the 2018 platinum only has chrome on the mirrors and door handles (and its easy to change out the door handles to color matched) compared to the limited with front chrome (rear chrome can be packaged out to color matched). I personally hate the amount of chrome on the truck in the lower trims.

edit : as a side note, most if not all Toyota's do NOT have air conditioned seats, they are ventilated. that means that the fan under the seat takes ambient air and pushes it up thru the seat. if I remember correctly only the lexus LS model has an actual dedicated a/c duct to the front seats.

    Paulphilly,

Your truck looks great. I too am looking to upgrade my 2009 limited to a 2018 Platinum, but I am wondering do you have any rubbing issues with the 295/55-20 tires on the stock rims. I think the 275s are just too tucked in on these trucks but I don't really want to but new rims.

As Nodak67 said, the SR5 package is not enough for me either and I have actually thought about just adding the TRD sport shocks and sway bars to improve the road manners.

I think you should go with the platinum. I opted for the pro mostly due to aesthetics and exterior color. I really wish the pros were based off the limited rather than the SR5 like it is in canada. And now that Toyota is offering cement as a color choice across all the trims it's a no brainer.

Just a thought, they just announce that the TRD pro is on hold for 2018. If Toyota follows past protocol of stopping pro models year before next gen comes out, fall of 2018 will be the next gen. Confirmation will be announced in Jan auto show usually.

Limited or Platinum. I was in the same boat as you when I saw the TRD Sport but it's all just cosmetics. I was talking to a guy that I bought some rims off of and he bought the TSS Edition and I was surprised to hear that he paid almost the same price we paid for our Limited and a TSS is just an SR5 with rims and tires on it.

If he did than he way over paid or you got one heck of a deal. TSS have a $4k rebate on a 2017. I think 2018 all have the same rebate.

I also liked the looks of the 2018 Sport when the photos/videos first appeared on the internet and I was contemplating of switching to a Tundra. Like you said, you are very limited on available options Not being able to get blind spot monitors or heated leather seats was a No-Go for me.

I am picking up a new loaded Limited on Monday. I could have bought a Platinum for about the same price but I don't want ventilated seats anymore, they are a PIA to keep clean (stuff always gets into those tiny holes).

I was debating the same thing for a couple months. I wanted the exact same things in my Tundra and ended up getting the Limited just this past Wednesday. Could not be happier. Got leather, sunroof, heated seats, dual climate control, everything I wanted. I got the spec sheet for the Sport from a dealer and the Limited ended up being just $500 more. So much more for your money.

    hbmyke7,

Nice truck! Could you do me a favor and post a close-up photo of the chrome tip you have, maybe from a few feet back so I can see how far it sticks out past the tire? I also just bought a new Limited and had the chrome tip put on at the dealership, mine looks like it is sticking out way to far. I am wondering if they put the P/N on my truck.

    Thanks,

I can when I get home but it can be adjusted in a few minutes. I used a lug nut wrench to loosen it up and moved it the way I wanted it. It was put on crooked (Toyota logo) so I loosened it up and adjusted it the way I wanted. Very easy, literary took me 3 minutes. Btw, what's p/n stand for?

Thank you, that looks definitely different AND much better then what they put on my truck which is odd because mine is a OEM Toyota part. Did yours come from the factory or dealer installed?

I guess your chrome tip is just about even with the end of the actual tail pipe from what it looks like. Mine is about 4" longer then the pipe and my tail pipe sits lower as well. Being anal dictates that I will take my truck to an exhaust shop and have it fixed the way I want it to look. At least they got the TRD shift knob on right.

P/N stands for part number (I guess I have been in the military for to long). I don't think I can adjust mine because it is already all the way back on the bigger portion of the tail pipe.

Yes, it was already on when I purchased the truck. I didn't realize they had so many different type of tips. The one I have is just a bolt on, not the best but it was included so I'll probably just leave it unless I end up with an aftermarket exhaust. Good luck with yours, I'm anal about that kind of stuff too.

    Hey Paulphilly,

I'm looking at likely getting a platinum also, but I too am wondering if the 295/55's rub at all. I like how the tires fill the wheel well better but I prefer to stay with stock rims if possible to avoid any front end strains and running or rocks being thrown on the sides.

Also, how do you like those tires?

    Thanks.

After doing a little research I figured out what went wrong. Whoever installed it at the dealer didn't use the two spacers (circled red in the photo); those are needed to slide the tip all the way back on the smaller diameter of the tail pipe and secure it in that position. I contacted my salesman about that; he apologized and ordered a whole new kit which they will send me express mail. I will put it on myself this way I know it is done right.

I also told him that I hope that this is not an indication of the type of work his service department will do on my truck. He assured me that he will personally make sure that I get the best service. It pays when they know you check their work.1.jpg

That's good to hear, at least they are taking care of it. As far as service from a Toyota dealer, I'm not sure of anyone else's experience but I have had nothing but issues with almost every service center at a dealer. From forgetting to check an item I specifically asked for(after a 2 hour wait and just got an oil change), from them absolutely destroying my brand new dash (defect from the gauge plastic cover) on my new Tacoma (back in 2014). You would not believe how many parts they had to order just to fix the damage they cause, it took them 3 days to fix it. I have heard of horror stories from many Toyota owners, I don't trust any dealers service department. I go so far as to not even taking advantage of the free oil changes and go to a local shop and will pay for it just for peace of mind. I don't mean to scare you but this has always been my experience with Toyota going back over a decade and have heard so many with the same experience. Just my thoughts bud, keep a close eye out after you receive your truck back if you go to a dealer.

I had the same experience with a Ford dealer. However, once they figured out that I am anal about things and will check their work.......no more problems. Also, key is to remain calm and polite while still getting your point across. When I go in for my first 5K service I will stay there and wait. I also always tell them that I want my engine oil right on the full mark, no more no less. My Ford dealer had to drain some out once because it was overfilled. I hope for the best.

hbmyke7, I totally am with you.I can't trust dealers. too many bad experiences for simple service work. I too am giving up on the free service just because I know when it goes in for a basic oil change, I will look the truck over and find several other issues; oil over/ under filled, something left loose, a tool left in the engine compartment, a new scratch or door ding, scuffed seat, etc. It sucks, to them this is just another vehicle.... its sad.
