Installed interior LEDs in dome/map. Worked fine for two weeks now every day blowing a 7.5 mini fuse under the hood.

I don't know jack about electrical stuff so what should I do?

yep bank account is running low from it..
Check your leds you put in and make sure the tabs coming off the leds are not bent.. while the bulb is out check the connector in the housing. Make sure in the housing nothing is touching the two connection inside the housing.

If all checks out ok and you dont see anything wrong you can have a BAD led dead shorting the system in turn blowing the fuse.

To me sounds like you have a led bulb that is bad in manufacturing process and or the board of the led.

Sounds like in all probability it's a bad LED bulb. I'll pull and replace and see if that does the trick

ill try more in the bag until I try them all. If they all fail then I'm out $5 in fuses and the $10 in leds

Well i am still without light on the map lights. Just haven't messed with them again. I know one of the metal holders is pushed in that i need to somehow pull back into position.
I did install them in the licence plate area and they were flickering alot so i replaced them. Quality of the bubs isn't very good.
Still have the installed on the dome light and thus far they are doing good in that location.

I bought these off of Amazon. Installed them about 2 months ago, and I have not had any issues with them. They put out a nice, bright white light. Not sure how much they're going for on EBay but I thought $20 for 11 LED bulbs was a good deal.

I bought/installed the ~$10 dollar set (Classy Autos Toyota Tundra White Interior LED Package (10 Pieces)). All are working OK except 1 (flickering) I will replace it soon, maybe when I get home tonight. Better than the OEM bulbs for sure. Hopefully these don't blow the 7.5 AMP fuse now that I am thinking about the cheap ones I purchased.

Oh and the local autozone didn't have a pack of individual 7.5 Low Profile fuses so I had to buy an assortment pack... not a bad thing, unless I start blowing the 7.5AMP! o_O

Ok I'm bringing this thread back to life. I have the same problem with 7.5 mini blowing under hood. I removed all led lights and put new fuse in. I noticed the floor well light come on, but when the delay kicked in it blew the fuse. So is there a relay switch or something that's kicking off. I only replaced interior lights nothing else. Getting irritated cause I can only imagine what the cost would be to get it fixed being a electrical problem. Anyone dealing with this, please chime in or someone who can make sense of this. Thanks

see if you short circuited something where each light bulb fits in. If the contacts are touching then that is the reason for the fuse blowing. You could have damaged one of the metal holders like I did by pushing in too hard.

I messed up the passenger side switch that is under the map light cover somehow too. Now that light isn't functional

^^^^ +1 Take a good flashlight and do a visual inspection of the bulbs (contacts/sockets) checking for any signs of a short. I assume when you said you removed the LEDs you reinstalled the OEM bulbs? Visually inspect to see if any of the OEM bulbs may have blew prior to the fuse going and that may narrow down the location of the short circuit... I'm interested to know if something else caused the fuse to blow. Let us know what you find out, take your time when you get frustrated - you'll figure it out.

I had no problem installing my LEDs but my friend kept blowing fuses on his Tundra. This is what he did. Try pulling the fuse and then installing the LEDs. Then put the fuse back in. Note which lights aren't on. Pull the fuse again and reverse those lights. Now try the fuse again.

Thanks for your help, I removed all leds and did not put anything back, so that's telling me it's gotta be in that delay or metal touching. Will post back when this is figured out.

By the way Brian, that's what I did to my map lights up front, tried to pull the harness down and oops. So will be replacing the map light assembly. Hopefully Trdsparks has it. Also working on light in my driver side door, I shut it accidentally and crushed metal harness to the point I can't bend it back right. Hopefully Trdsparks has that part too. Sometimes I'm like a bull in a china shop, and in my line of work I would think to be cautious and aware. Thanks for your input

Decided to investigate the broken map light switch.

Pulled the upper console down by removing 6 torx head screws and unplugging one electrical connector.

The map light switch comes off by sliding it sideways off the prongs:

Cracked the broken switch open to find that one of the terminals fried.

Also found that the light connector popped off of one of its plastic numbs. With some pressure on the top it pops back into place.

Great post Brian, wonder if you can replace the brass components that your bulbs slide into. That's what broke on mine as I tried gently, hehehe to pull it back into place. I hope so because the overhead console is between 4-5 hundred, could find one on a wrecked Tundra, anyway great write up Brian

Found an awesome temp fix for the switch. Connect the inner two prongs with a connector. This allows the light to come on with unlock and the door being open. Obviously you can't turn the light on manually.

So is there anyway this could have been prevented while still using LED's?

I'm no expert with electrical stuff but I thought fuses are supposed to prevent this kind of damage...

If tge LEDs can operate on a lower fuse, would that help protect the components in a malfunction like a bad LED?

New to site and to Toyota, so I have the same issue as above with fuse 7.5 popping. I'm going to try taking out all the bulbs I messed with and see if the fuse pops again.

Will they work on a 2014? My passenger light stopped working all together. No flickering or warning just stopped. Tried switching to a new bulb. Left map, domes, vanities all work fine.

Also, does opening the old switch ruin it?

I'm guessing it's the same switch but you would have to look. The switch is sealed so it might ruin if opened. Maybe you could glue back together but it's a risk. They are cheep enough just to replace.
