    My dad showed me that trick about 25 years ago when he got his 55 HP Long tractor stuck in water soaked boggy ground while clearing stumps. It was buried up to the belly pan so he put an old railroad cross-tie behind the rear tires and chained it to both rear wheels. A little throttle in low-range reverse and the tractor lifted itself right out of the hole.

    That lesson came in handy 12 years later when I got a Tacoma bogged down to the axles in thick, silty mud in the middle of nowhere. A tow truck wasn't an option since the little Tacoma just barely fit down the trail I was on.

    I used a large tree branch that I found nearby and a couple of rachet straps and I was on my way.
