Just purchased a 2017 Toyota Tundra 5.7L SR5 Double Cab in White and three days in I love it. Had 4 miles on it and actually had to have the passenger rear tire sensor replaced already which was a bummer, but I hope that will be it. I manage a company that is heavy into Lean Manufacturing and I have studied Toyota's history and TPS extensively so it was almost natural for me to go with Toyota when my wife and I decided to upgrade from our 10 year old Nissan Pickup (what a difference). I do have 100s of questions so finding this forum was a blessing. Spent about 3 hours so far reading threads and its like drinking from a fire hose. Couple of questions that I have that I haven't found answers for.

Q1The stock wheels that came with the truck I think are hideous. Since the truck is white I was hoping to find a matte or satin black wheel to contrast and match the step. I also plan on swapping out the grill in the near future. I've been to several shops including America's tires and a couple of local shops. Was hoping to get wheels that I could run the stock tires on for a year and thought I had it all figured out until one of the shops "educated" me. The manager explained to me that I would have to move up to a 20" wheel because the SR5 has a larger brake set up and the aftermarket wheels in the 18" range will rub on the calipers. He showed me where the stock wheel has a depression on the inside that allows the wheel to turn without rubbing. Actually made sense to me, but in reading all these forums I don't see the same concern mentioned (even on the introduction email forum link). Does anyone know if this is true? If it is true and I have to move to a 20" would love some recommendations. I was looking at an American Racing AR901 with Nitto tires (although I may need to wait a bit to bite off the $2000 it appears it will set me back). I didn't get the impression that he was just trying to upsell me because he actually recommended I wait a year or two for the stock tires to wear out. We will be using the truck for towing and also long runs out to the river so I am concerned about gas mileage (yeah I know I'm screwed), road noise and ride. Thoughts?

Q2 - On several other threads I see that there are some backorders on black pro grills. Any recommendations on where to shop for a new grill in black?

Q3 Does anyone have this bedrail kit or other recommendations? https://trdshop.carlocktoyotaoftupelo.com/oem-parts/toyota-bed-rails-6-5-pt27834072

Sorry for the long post, but excited and ready to get working on it.

    Welcome from Colorado.

I have after market 18"s and no rubbing on caliper. Just make sure wheels are hubcentric.

For PRO grills @Roman is your guy.

    I have answers for #3 sorry :(

Welcome from WI. You should be fine with aftermarket 18's, AR901's are a sharp rim. If you had the TRD big brake kit you'd need 20's. Not sure on the grill. Roman is the parts guru and he'd be able to help you with the cargo rails as well. There is a thread on making cargo rails out of uni-strut.

That's good to know. I will try another shop. Based on the design of the wheel it made sense and he claimed I had an upgraded brake set up. I don't see anywhere on the paperwork where I have an upgraded system. Nothing visually indicates it to me either. Sounds like Roman is the man, so I will have to reach out to him.

I've only run into a rub issue one time trying to put Mickey Thompson 17's on a Tacoma but haven't had any problems with 18's on Tundras. If you have any doubts ask to have the rim prefitted on the truck. My shop does this and I would think most shops would do it as well. If for some reason a rim wouldn't work they're pretty easily returned as long as a tire hasn't been mounted. As far as I'm aware, Tundra brakes are the same across all of the trim levels and the TRD big brake kit is strictly an order only option...i could be wrong however. I'm sure others will chime in.

Welcome from So Cal (Eagle Rock)!
@Roman is where I got my Pro Grill from but you might want to call Toyota Glendale and speak to Nathan. He's a pretty cool guy with good prices as well. The last I heard he had some Pro grills in stock.

Hi, Neighbor! I agree with you about your stock wheels; anything you do will make your new truck even better. I'm pretty new here myself, so no better recommendations than these ^ above. I have totally changed my mind, though, about buying a PRO grill straightaway; lotta people here doing plastidips that turn out great, can be "undone" if you change your mind or, in my case, allow you to buy other stuff first.

Welcome from San Diego. I see no issues with you running any 18" aftermarket wheel. A few companies make 17's that fit our calipers. I would hit up another shop for another opinion. Keep in mind if keeping the stock tires for a year or two, try to find a wheel that is similar width and offset as your steel wheel so the tire wheel combo doesn't look to funky. Good luck with all and enjoy that new river truck......

Thanks for the welcome. I was looking at an 18x9 American Racing R901. I think it had a +30 offset (could be wrong). I think the stock tire is a 8" so I thought the 9 wouldn't be awful. I want to at least get a year out of the stock tires. The other thought was selling the stock rims and tires, but I don't think I could get much for them.

Completed my first Mods yesterday (okay not really mods..lol). Picked up this toolbox at Harbor freight with Pittsburgh tools. I didn't figure they were the highest quality, but HB offers a lifetime warranty. Fits in the compartment under the rear seat perfectly and for $38 you can't beat it. Wait until next week and use a 20% off coupon. I didn't really need a hammer or wall anchors in my truck, but hey you never know when you will be a friend's house who doesn't have any tools and need to hang a painting or something.

In regards to actual mods I ordered a pro grill and super white hood bulge. Picked out the wheels I want and plan on ordering them Monday. Went with the AR901 18x9 with 20 offset (black of course). The struggle is whether to keep the stock tires that came with the truck or pick up the Nittos I am eyeing. Hard to stomach tossing (selling for nothing) tires with 250 miles on them. I'm really torn on what to do.
