I hope they remedied whatever caused this collapse.

I used them offroad plenty, never had any issues at all. My guess about the image linked above would be that the user did something stupid like crank them way higher than they should be.

I did eventually upgrade to a Toytec/Radflo setup, but there is nothing wrong with the FBG coilovers. They are fantastic for the price. They come with a lifetime warranty against defect or failure - which they wouldn't do if issues like what is pictured above were common.

There is a thread on this forum of a Toytec 2.0 Boss front shock failing after being parked, after driving on the street..

    upload_2017-9-18_20-3-45.jpg

My point is not to bash on Toytec or Bilstein, but just to point out that there are tons of examples of failures on these very respected brands out there as well. If this was representative of their entire product line these companies would quickly go out of business.

I liked my FBG setup, did what is was supposed to and rode well, even over rough terrain. I like my Toytec setup even more, but it was also about 3x as expensive.

Fat Bob's Garage is local to me too - great crew up there.

The Toytec one was the result of a recalled product and they made it right the next day. That was @COMiamiFan

Sure. Just like Fat Bob's fixed a shitty alignment for free for me that another place did, and I'm positive that they immediately replace any and every piece of hardware with their name on it that doesn't perform to expectations, or for whatever reason fails.

My point is just that even the most respected brands have things slip by. I'm not finding hundreds, or even tens of complaints on FBG online.. maybe it was one of those recall or one thing got past QC things.

Did you like the ride? Were you able to crank them safely up to 3"?

Yeah, the ride was just fine. I honestly don't notice a difference between the FBG and the Toytec 2.5 set over regular driving, although the Toytecs seem to be a little stiffer and equalize faster over rough desert.

I had them at 3"the entire time, no issues.

I've had my fat Bob's going on 2 years and no problems. They ride a little stiff with 700 lb springs, but did what I wanted them to do.

Do you have aftermarket UCA's as well? If so what are you running with these?

Yes with 700 lb springs how much height did you get? Did you have an aftermaket welded steel bumper?
And what UCA'S did you have?

They are adjustable and I set them for 2 3/4 inch. Plus I have a coachbuilder shim on each side that adds another half inch. Total front lift is 3 1/4.

I have SPC light racing uca's and no aftermarket bumpers at the moment.

Nice, that looks killer. Why a shim and not twist the collar up on the coil?

Thanks. I'm not sure if it made a whole lot of difference, but since the springs were already 700lbs, I was trying not to preload them as much.

Was the ride too stiff? Did it chatter your teeth out, or just a little more firm over stock?

I only know how the ride is with the way I have it set now. I put the shims in with the coilovers and set them.

The ride is a lot more firm than stock. Not so firm that it doesn't flex or uncomfortable drive. But it is firm. Especially compared to the car like feel of the stock suspension.

This is the way I look at it. If you want an inexpensive way to lift your truck and have the adjustability in height, this is a good way to go. My plan has always been to eventually get something king or icon suspension. But I did not want a spacer lift in the meantime. Who knows, I may just keep what I've got. I'm happy with them, especially for the price.

You can request Bilstein shocks in them now. If they had been offering that option when I bought mine, I would have ordered them that way.

Ha, I come to the site almost every day and read what's going on. I just rarely have been able to post for the last few months. Between the railroad and pipe fence that I've been building at my house, I've been wore out!
