wondering if any of you can help me - I can't find the right term to google...

I'm looking to replace my DRLs with LEDs and need to wire in a resistor to prevent hyperflash. I'd rather not cut up my factory harness so wanted to get a male & female plug for whatever fitting the DRL is so that I could just make my own pigtail harness so i can quickly & easily revert to stock.

Does anyone know what the type of fitting used is for the DRLs - I'm guessing it's not proprietary so should be relatively easy to source one I know what i'm looking for...

    Thanks in advance,
    T

I have read that there is a turn signal relay made for use with LEDS. That eliminates the need for resistors.

If I remember correctly, you need 3157CK LEDs.

You can simply wire a 6ohm resistor to each turn signal, with a lead to both the positive and negative wires. You can either screw the resistor to a steel part of your truck or just use 3M double sided tape (get the kind made for extreme temperatures) and make sure to secure to metal for heat dissipation. Mine are attached this way for almost 2 years with no issues.

So if I get this right you basically want to remove the current bulb insert a male socket with wiring that the other end would terminate with another female end? If so I think this would be what you would need then of course two more 4157 bulb(female) sockets and of course the 2 6 ohm resistors along with heat shrink and solder or some splices.

I get not wanting to cut the harness or use cheap splices but the resistors will need to be mounted to something solid and away from anything because they will get hot.. I have switchback DRL/Turn signals and my resistors are mounted in the trim panel below the headlights. If you have any solder experience and a an extra pair of hands I would go that route with some heat shrink to cover it when your done. Headlight Revolution has a great video on how to install them that makes it pretty easy.

Just make sure the sockets you get are 3157CK. Emphasis on CK. It won't work it isn't... let us know what you end up using if it works.

Another option would be to go with VLED tritons. They come w PnP resistor kit. They have a new v6 that is supposed to be better. I have V3's and they are great. But not cheap.

I could be wrong but I think the CK sockets are exactly the same form factor as the non-CK variety, it's just the pinout that's different.

I have the VLEDs too, and I second their greatness. My first pair melted due to a bad controller but customer service was great and I got an immediate replacement.

Exactly, the pinout/conductors is different. I forgot what it is but one of them has 2 ground and the other has 1. So if you try to use a non ck socket, it probably won't work.
