I'm not a big fan of black, that's why I'm not sold on the Platinum. I sat in the SR5 and the seats are hard, but probably livable. I don't know if I'd like them over the long haul.

Dark Grey with black interior sounds like a nice combo. For me, however, I want plain old easy to maintain, doesn't show scratches, stays a littler cooler in the 100+ heat, white exterior. On the inside, I'm pretty much sold on the Limited seats. I have a 2004 Sequoia with leather that has held up pretty well, the leather and seats are similar. Hope it works out.

I know the leather is much nicer in the Platinum, more like our Lexus, but I'm looking for a lighter color too.

My 1794 seats are in perfect condition after 10 months. The 1794 and Platinum both have Lexus upgraded leather so the comfort should be the same. I know the 1794 has suede inserts that people complain about but mine look like it did when it was brand new. I don't think the Platinum has the inserts but I'm not positive.

Platinum is def the best option. I'm in Texas and the seats cool down super fast. I also really fell in love with black. It's super easy to clean inside and it does a really good job hiding the dirt inside.

The leather is just so much better quality in my opinion.

That is my fear, that the "safety" stuff will become a problem. But I'll tell you that my wife is a little clumsy with vehicles and ran into the side of a Mercedes with an Expedition, she also rear ended a car (lightly) with her Lexus a couple years ago. So, if the collision avoidance helps at all it will be good. It might also lower our insurance. If it's annoying I'll turn it off.

As for seats; They are very important, and I found the SR5 seats to be pretty firm, but I'm not sure it would bother me. I originally wanted cloth seats because leather can be ruined and is not easily replaced, but my wife like the Grey or Tan leather (I'm leaning to grey).

Are happy with your truck other than minor issues with the seats?

Yeah, that's what I'm going with most likely. I want the factory spray in liner I think with the Off Road pkg. I won't change things out for a couple years anyway, I guess.

There are a lot of folks who say, "get the platinum". I respect that, but I have taken a test drive in the 1794 and I think the leather is the same (EDIT: As the Platinum). Its very nice. And I like the Platinum grill, but for me the color and extra expense is not worth it. I would even consider a SR5 Off Road, but wife like the leather seats better than the cloth.

Does the rear window roll down? I thought they stopped doing that. That would be a huge plus for me. Although I'm already sold on the Crew Max.

I absolutely love my truck!! I'll do some mods to remedy the excess of chrome, and I have a list of things I'll do over time for fun or convenience, but I love it so muck stock, that I'm in no hurry.

Two things I don't like: the weird canted front seats, and the interior ergonomics (lots of weird cutouts atop the shifter housing and console don't really work for me; gotta put my thumb on the display surround to hit (not miss) the selection I want on the media display when the truck is in motion; and the center console storage is sized to act as a beer cooler-- like a junk drawer on wheels.

Lotta people on here have bought a grid organizer on Amazon that helps a bit but if you want to add a console safe, you pretty much have to commit to using the whole console interior-- which means no quick access for phones, chargers, cd's, jackets or hats, hair ties, the kitchen sink, or whatever else you'll need to store there-- b/c there's pretty much no other storage in the truck.) I think I'll be able to modify the seat cant by placing washers underneath the sides closest to center though.

Not being negative but these are 2 things that bother me enough that I figured, since you asked....

Let us know what you pick.

Beautiful trucks. Wish I had the patience and time to maintain black. I do like the Platinum grill, but it is not a deal maker for me.

Maybe I could have a console safe fabricated to use half the space. And I know how to fabricate using plastic, so maybe I can create an organizer. As far as the seat cant, I'm not sure yet what that's like. Also, I wish they'd just left the rear bumper chrome because that's better than having the front chrome and the rear body color.

The whole screen/display thing can be a pain, hope it doesn't drive me crazy.

    Thanks for the honest feedback.

I'm considering this too. I saw a gravity-opening gun-safe at Costco that looked like it would fit in about half the space and could be attached to a steel L fabricated with 2 holes to line up with 2 of the 4 bolts that secure the console to the truck at the bottom. There's a guy on a thread I'm watching that is considering manufacturing an under-seat safe, after @4x4_Angel asked if anyone knew of a good one. The one she posted as an example ( *** ) has a small opening at the top to shove in receipts and the like w/o opening the safe-- I like that. It sounds like you have the skills (!) to make the console storage work the way you need it to.

I've heard from only a couple people that notice the seat cant-- it may not be a problem for everyone, but it bugs me. I like it in a sports car, but not a truck.

The whole screen/display thing IS a pain, but I feel my aim is getting better. Kinda felt like a drunk toddler trying to put letters through those toy cut-outs the first month though....

You're welcome! I'll try to edit to add links to stuff I've found. But I'm still learning how to use the site, so I gotta play around til I figure it out.

I'd probably prefer that under-seat concept for a gun or valuables but I haven't found it readily available. The closest was that one you posted. I would seriously consider buying both (split console and under-seat) because I plan to do some long trips and it'd be nice to have locking storage for purses, wallets, whatever. Plus the way it comes, the huge empty console isn't easy to organize, so this split design looks like a great improvement. If you still have that link handy, feel free to post it here for comparison. Meanwhile, I'll keep checking for interest in a group buy.

I keep sneaking on tonight but need uninterrrupted computer time I don't have tonight to get all the links onto these threads and check on what I'd need to do to get a group purchase going. I'll try to get going this weekend.

Yeah, thanks. I'd rather buy than have fabrication done, so the safe gosolo linked sounds good if it turns out to be a quality product. I like the fact that it has a combination and a key lock. The most useful improvement from my point of view would be a biometric lock of some kind, but they are a bit unreliable still.

Mostly I need to look out for smash and grab around here. They won't want to take the time to crowbar it open.

After almost 30 years of driving and owning cars I've come to the conclusion that factory is almost always better quality than aftermarket. Headlights, wheels, whatever.

Spray in bedliner (I have line x) is a no brainer must have.

    Have a 17 limited.

Grey leather looks really nice imo.

Hate the effing seats. Like park benches. Sr5 seats a much more comfortable imo. Also hate how sticky the leather is. I like slippery leather like my suburban had.

I would go with a 2018 SR5 DOUBLE CAB in CEMENT GRAY with the TRD OR, SR5 Upgrade, Entune and Convenience Package. I noticed you preferred the CrewMax but The double cab still has lots of room in the rear and a bigger bed plus superior towing and payload capacities. Or you can just get the CrewMax version.
