I'm new to the forum so forgive me if this has already been covered - I haven't waded through previous posts. I traded in my white 2015 tundra pro for a cement 2017 tundra pro and put slightly larger than factory tires on. My gas mileage went down and I feel like I'm pulling a parachute. It has 4.30's, but I think I will need 4.88's. Is there a Toyota dealer in the north Dallas area that someone could recommend to do the work? Thanks in advance!

2"CB shackles, bushings and 1 shim, lockerdown console vault, rear folding seat back mod, snugtop shell with opening side windows, 46g fuel tank, SDHQ sliders and hidden winch, Decked Drawers, Alcan leaf springs and got rid of the interior chrome
    Welcome aboard from AZ!
Curious what other mods do you have planned?
Also, what size tires did you go to that had this impact on mileage and power?

Thanks for the replies. I had the cold air box taken off my old 2015 tundra pro and installed on the 2017. I also had LED's installed up front and had it tuned. The factory tire size on the Pro is 275/65-18 (height is 32.1 inches) and I put 275/70-18 (height is 33.2 inches) on the factory wheels. The 2017 truck feels like it has 80-85% the power of my old Pro with stock tires. The old truck got about 15 mpg combined City/Hwy and the new one is getting just over 12. I find it hard to believe that such a small tire size increase made such a difference in performance. If I was confident that new gears would restore the fuel economy and performance, I'd install new gears - just not sure it will help.

I wouldn't expect a 1" increase in tire height to warrant a gear change. Must be something else going on. Put it in Tow/Haul-ass mode and see if it appears to give you back your power. Also, at the risk of stating the obvious, make sure you aren't driving around in 4WD.

An update...I spoke with Keith at Dirty Deeds and now have a better understanding of the problem...just don't ask me to give you the details. He seems confident that the increase in tire size has resulted in an approximate 10% loss of hp and that the 4.88's will restore power and fuel economy. I don't live in the same part of the country so he won't be doing the install. I'll plan to post the results a few hundred miles after the installation. Thanks again for your replies.

So did you get your new 4.88 gears, and did it help? I did the same tire change and I'm really disappointed in the loss of power.

I’m curious also did you end up going with 4.88? I’m thinking I’m going to 315/70/17 and looking at regearing
