Welp... Its that time! I don't post much, since I mostly peruse, but it's time to document the upcoming changes to my truck. As a couple of folks know, I'm one of them "hardcore" wheelers. Or at least I like to think that. I own/build/redo/rebuild/redo again/build some more on a 1985 Jeep Cherokee XJ, dubbed Project Jevy. Its a wee bit modified!

    04BDB780-67A7-44F5-8E00-8C4F9B414AE3_zps_1490b5018470995070e55b965e6d32092ef8c334.jpg

    7E7BCD1E-59B0-463A-88E5-FAD8AEAB18CC_zps_10ce58e5e97fc458c1e026204dc60d8ac51b93a8.jpg

So why is this relevant? Keep reading...

The original intent of the truck was tow pig duties with some light dirt road wheeling, but mostly pull my jeep/trailer combo to wherever life takes me. (@ColoradoTJ I'm making it out to Colorado to wheel with your rigs for sure!! Its now on my bucket list)

Anyway.. it didn't stay stock for very long and it is now on its way to becoming what I need it to in order to survive Alaska. Yes, you read that right, I am headed to Alaska!! Well, at least I have convinced myself to pull the trigger on this since its something that I have wanted to do for multiple years. All of this would be done in 2019. It gives me a little under 2 yrs to make the changes.

What I assume is Alaska based on a picture I stole off the internet:

    Currently the plan is:
    Arrival:
-Ship truck to Portland, OR to my buddy's house with all accessories
-Fly to Portland, OR to pick up truck from said buddy's house
-Drive to Seattle, WA with said buddy and other buddy's from Texas
-Put vehicles on Ferry from Seattle, WA to Juneau, AK
-Either ride the ferry or fly to Juneau
-Pick up the vehicles and begin said overlanding

Our target is to spend 12-14 days meandering in Alaska

    Departure:
-Bomb the however many hour trip from wherever we are to Juneau, AK
    -Put vehicles on ferry
-Either ride the ferry or fly to Seattle, WA
    -Drive to Portland, OR
-Leave my truck at my buddies house for however long it takes me to arrange shipping back to me
    -Ship truck
    -Receive truck
-Reminisce on the epic journey had in Alaska

    Alaska goals:
-Touch an iceberg, possibly wheel on one. At minimum, I want to put a tire on one. (Definitely worth getting arrested over)
-Drive the Dalton Highway to Prudhoe Bay
-Touch Artic Ocean. I'll probably jump in it if I'm being honest.
-Attempt to see the northern light
    -Fist bump a bald eagle
    Denali National Park
    Glacier Bay National Park
    Hiking
    Wheeling
    Fairbanks
and.... probably most importantly, NOT DIE.

So where is the truck build part? See below:

Here is my truck in its unmolested beauty.

    7037D9BF-B24F-45BA-9085-227DC1B86EC1_zps_70dff731b5d28ce82395a52a3e505971486ce5f0.jpg

The trailer that the truck was intended to tow. Love this thing.

    598698B3-76F8-46F6-B31B-771AB357DED5_zps_f571e95b855c31c8dfb9536bae773a881ec515e2.jpg

and finally, doing what it's supposed to.

    B1B5DCB1-A3F3-4790-8C73-854196E35A22_zps_f7fb26ea29b3c7859f3ff0165c6d0b21d6b3be36.jpg

The pic above was when we moved cross country from Long Beach, CA to Evansville, IN for work. We are originally from the midwest, so before anyone asks why I left, I wanted to leave. Bad!!

From there, the modding began. It all started with this little tailgate theft protection. Probably unnecessary, but I rarely lock the tail gate and didn't know that the pop-lock thing existed.

    DSC_0275.jpg

Then it was things like morimoto fog lights that I bought off the Group Buy on here.

    DSC_0281.jpg

    DSC_0280.jpg

From that, I tossed around the idea of what I wanted to do with the truck and made the decision that it was Alaska or bust. So it was time to step up my modding game.
First on the list was a set of Demello Offroad sliders. These suckers wrap around the frame and bolts using 8-10 1/2" grade 8 bolts.

    BC0B9B89-F202-42BB-BED5-BFF27B525C34_zps_9ba60dd6d6576e0a03be38ac1d7bb2dd5b2c21a3.jpg

    Have also ordered or installed:
    - sPOD with sunglasses holder replacement
    - Rago fabrication a-pillar brackets and pods
    - TREDs from the Group Buy on here
    - Lund Bed box to put all my crap, couldn't justify chopping out the floor on a brand new truck
    - RCI full skid plate setup. TRD Pro skid will be up for sale soon.

    Future plans:
    - Icon Stage 7, with the optional rear hydro bumps. I'm hoping to keep as much of the tow capacity as possible. It still has to tow my jeep/trailer combo. We'll see how feasible this is without bags.
    - Icon speed six in 17" flavor
    - 315/70R17, but haven't decided on tire or brand yet. Supposedly fits without CMC on the 17s
    - SDHQ hidden winch mount
    - Probably a 12-15K winch
    - Rear rack setup of some sort. Maybe BAMF, or RCI, or Voodoo, or?
    - RTT
    - ARB fridge
    - Dual battery setup with Painless solid state solenoid (Purchased, just needs installed)
    - SDHQ bulge LED bar (maybe)
    - Retrofits, because stock headlights SUCK!!
    - Other...

Stay tuned... I'll update as the mods come in.

Looking forward to seeing your build! Love the QS's, if I could have a CM in that color or a cement along with mine I'd be a happy man

So.... all of the tractions showed up today. All of them.

These things are beef and the corners really sharp. Hopefully I never have to use these, but I'll have them if I need to.

Thanks to @ramonortiz55 for the hookup on the group buy!!

    Dude,

U stole my fav. Tundra color and then my idea for a road trip to Alaska. I always wanted to drive to Barrow Alaska but couldn't find anyone crazy like me to do it. May be I will just start following you in my truck.

You are a brave soul wanting to explore the real world while we whine and complain living in man made world with all the luxuries.

You're more than welcome to follow us. Thus far, we have the only manual swapped 4th gen 4Runner in the world, a 17 taco on 35s, and my other buddy is tossing around the idea of an LC100.

Requirements are 35s, full skids, lockers F/R, winch, recovery points, and being able to live out of your rig for 2 straight weeks.

    Thanks amigo.

So much America in this post. I'm not even sure if eagles have "fists" but I'll talon bump one at minimum.

Some minor progress, but I installed the skids. Definitely worth the coin! If anyone is actually reading this... I have a TRD Pro skid plate for sale.

    Onto some crappy pics:

Welp... after installing them fancy skid plates, you gotta go put them through the “test”. So off we went to the Red River Gorge in Kentucky. Got a cabin for the weekend and spent some quality time in the woods with 2 of my best friends and their wives. I was even able to get it slightly stuck enough to need 4WD. My truck hadn’t been in 4WD since we chased Baja a couple yrs ago. This is a sad realization....

#hardparking all that’s missing is a curb and I’d be up there with the mall crawlers.
    A20A8FE0-CF0F-41CC-9647-20CB56875EA2.jpg
I did used to have a-pillar lights, but I sold them to a buddy, so off they went. @Baja Designs squadrons will be replacing them.

Got the nose stuck off camber and it was slipping the rear tires, so I dusted the cobwebs off the 4wd button/system and shifted her in.

Ultimately the destination. Unfortunately this pic doesn’t do it justice, but that’s about 60 feet of ledges. Epic!!

I have been following his build. I dig the bed rack and the compressor mount! Only issue I have is that I am planning on a dual battery setup in the stock location, so it will be tight in that area already.

I’m thinking about putting it in the back corner with a custom plate mount and some strategically placed bends/fasteners.

So..... Black Friday and cyber Monday were both REALLY good and REALLY bad. I got a ton of parts, but the ol’ bank account is feeling it a bit.

Came home and these are the only boxes on my porch. I quickly set my crap down and started bringing them in.
    944182DE-316C-44D4-8FB4-62017D920014.jpg

The more I moved, the more boxes I found. 7 in total and more on their way.

    05F4A96F-A281-447F-B4F7-AADDFCE41D89.jpg

Been waiting to order these for a while. These aren’t cheap, but I’m pumped for the 10,000 lumens they advertise. About to have lights of a thousands suns on my a-pillars...

Since I plan to run a bed rack and a RTT Offroad, I figured I’d get the SDHQ kit to stiffen up the bedsides and maybe even reduce the bed twerk.

    Look at then welds!!

    66CE946E-6FEA-4B53-BAB1-80D4F529989C.jpg

And finally, the big ticket items. I am super pumped about these babies. I’ve had my eyes on these for a while and SDHQ has a killer deal.

Keep your eyes peeled for some TRD Pro wheels and tires combo up for sale in the marketplace in the near future.

    EAE516F5-5056-44E4-BC42-044CB08CBB80.jpg 443D297E-E88A-4E85-BBA0-101A1ADC522D.jpg

Lastly, I got some tires ordered and more goodies for the truck. Prepping for Alaska is well on it way!!

To keep you guys entertained, here is some pics of probably the only manual swapped 4th gen 4Runner in the world. It has a Tacoma trans and Tacoma transfer case. Probably gonna get either an atlas 4speed or twin Toyota cases in the near future and definitely before Alaska.

4th gen and 5th gen that we used to chase Baja last year. It’s honestly one of the best trips I’ve ever done.

And even much closer to this:

You can see out tire tracks in the pics. We were maybe 30 feet from the ocean and it’s definitely one of the best places ive ever slept.

Edit: I found more Baja pics.

The 2nd are of some Mexican folks on the rock. One of thisen2 lost their balance and fell off, but luckily there were no cars coming.

Gracias. The big ticket items are still coming, but as I get closer and closer I will be making the big decisions on parts.

    Baby update.

35s showed up and I also go the ABS guards from SDHQ. If the weather cooperates, I may actually install these things.

Thanks! Not yet. Planning on getting it knocked out next week. The biggest delay is the sensors and waiting on the new lug nuts to show up.

Negative. Icon advertises that you can fit 315/70s on their 17” wheels without the chop. So... we’ll see.

Forgot to post this above with the other 4Runner stuff, but this is the manual swapped 4runner in action. This was dishpan springs trail in Big Bear, CA going east to west I believe. Obstacle is the waterfall at the end of the trail. This is definitely a super mild trail, until you get to this. It's designed to be a gate keeper for the other way around, but we went up it the wrong way.

This truck/guy combo is also Alaska bound. This thing is going under the knife again for more updates and longer fuel range.

I'm the fat kid in the black t-shirt spotting. Enjoy.
