Anyone do any prepping for natural disasters or worse an EMP? The below article is worth a bit of reading...during my career most of which I spent in anti terrorism this was discussed a lot at table top excersises and round table meetings on a national level. Now being retired, and not an over the top prepper here, but we maintain at least 6 months supply of food and plenty of clean water and lots of other things to get us through rough times. As I hope everyone knows the gubberment cannot and will not be there to save the day.

And just trust me when I say we can protect it. There is no bugging out. Just something to think about.
Today's prepper maybe thought of as a fool, until the SHTF and then an instant genius.
Read a book called- "One Second After", you won't put it down. It will change the way you think about life and survival forever. FWIW..

Thanks, Dave. We do have some food for when SHTF. Probably 30-45 days. We don't have water stored (as we should) nor fuel (as we should). Been meaning to do that. We try to keep supplies for bugging in and bugging out, meaning long term at home or time to load up essentials and GTFO. We have portable shelters, medical stuff (just cant get syringes for the life of me), some antibiotics, first aids and all that good stuff. Plenty of guns and ammo to take supplies from those that don't have guns and ammo LOL!

One second after is a great book. I know everyone has a different financial situation but if you wait til danger is imminent to prepare you're doing it all wrong. While I don't envision Irma making its way to Central VA we at the Scot compound are prepared if it does. Stay safe out there fellow Tundra owners.

I'm actually more curious with the EMP scenario fallout.... how exactly are we letting the idiot of the world do this to us?

I bought an extra 160 bottles of water today ha... we'll at least make it a couple days :bananadance:

After some recent headlines I thought about the importance of keeping more food and water on hand. I haven't done anything to get more yet, but I should step up my game. I'm curious to know what type of food you have on hand? Canned goods, MRE's?

^^^this. We need some tips and more advice. Especially what kind of canned food to get that lasts indefinitely. I would rather not buy a bunch of food and throw it away after a couple of years. Right now I'd say I would have enough for my family to last 3 weeks but would like to up that to about 6 months.

Others may have a different view, but we have learned that Mountain House frreeze dried long term food products tastes about as good as it gets. I carry them on my dualsport motorcycle as an emergency back up or when camping. They have a plus 20 yr self life and you only need to boil water. Anything you buy will have salt, try and keep that number fairly low. I have (4) freezers that will all run off gen power. And I have fuel stored. I can control how much fuel I use and when I use it. You really have to adapt what will work for your circumstances. You can live for weeks without food, but you have to have water. We live on a 1700 acre fresh drinking water lake. Let me say it again, You have to have water..bold caps, underline..I could go on and on.
We spend crazy $$$ on mods, but mods won't keep you warm, dry and full of food. Just sayin....;)
We watch the people run to the grocery stores on TV during a disaster...sad. City people are seriously at a disadvantage....No prep at all.

Just a thread to get people thinking.

MREs are a popular but dumb choice in my opinion. They are horrifically expensive and they are NOT designed to be survived off of for an extended period of time. I forgot the exact time but I want to say that it’s two weeks max. Even a week of MREs and you will forget what pooping is like.
Water is by far the most important.
We keep sweet potato’s and dried beans for our emergency food. Calorie and nutrient dense, cheap and long shelf life.

What is everyone keeping water in? Just buying Aquafina packs, purchased gallon jugs of water or larger containers filled up with tap water and refreshed every so often?

I am just trying to get the ball rolling here. I don't have anything prepared, but this is where I may start, nothing crazy, but some things.

Just doing some thinking, no solid research here, just some googling, etc.

So for water, 5 gallon containers. As many as you would like to store. Filling up a bathtub, containers, etc. (1 gal per person per day, 1/2 for drinking, 1/2 for food)

Sternos for heating food inside, weather permitting. Propane for grill, weather permitting.

    Can opener for canned goods.

For food. (I used Google for this)
    Peanut butter.
    Low sodium soups.
    Low sodium canned vegetables
    Canned fruit in juice.
    Dried fruits
    Granola/power bars
    Vacuum packed cereals
    Vacuum packed trail mix, nuts
    Powdered milk
    Multivitamins

Again, I'm just looking things over, if any of this is not right, correct me for the record haha!

if you like camping and have the gear already, it's a good step in the right direction as far as prepping. Then add some extra water and de-hydrated food.
Oh and guns...whoever has the biggest gun will get what he/she wants.

Great start, a few cases of all the above will get you going. Long term food prep is an ongoing thing. Every time we grocery shop it has become a part of our thinking. That is the first really the first step.
Good on you @MotoTundra we rotate our bulk foods. Great start bro!
