Sequoia front end? Has anyone on here ever did an 06-07 sequoia front end conversion?

I parked next to this sequoia today. Has anyone ever done an 06-07 sequoia front end swap?

 

Almost done doing mine. Kind of a pain...

Sorry for the un-detailed reply I don't have much to offer in terms of pictures but once I'm finished (hopefully soon) I should be able to offer more. To explain the difficulty one must really begin where I began with the truck. This was the state in which I purchased it...



This is a 2006 Toyota Tundra Double Cab SR5 4.7 4x4. Now myself not being well versed in Tundras or first gens in general. I had to find out the hard way that a lot of panels for 05-06 are unique, Double Cab even more so unique, and SR5 even more so on top of that. Could be just the part number system set up to mess with me but that's what I've come across.

Then came the task of trying to figure out what parts (if any) are shared between the Sequoia and Tundra, which the Sequoia also had it's fare share of design changes. Next is sourcing the parts, for example fender flares came in a few different flavors (so did fenders) which a lot of the time you have just a generic picture to go by. This for example is all I had to work with...

As you can see a lot of the images are not very descriptive so it's hard to imagine what the part looks like and if it will serve your purpose especially when converting from one vehicle to another. You try to look up images by part number but seldom are proven successful to find anything beyond the crude drawings seen above.

So initially I started out thinking...Great! This should be as easy as new bumper cover and grille with all else being the same. Proceed down the rabbit hole and you find out the bumper reinforcement is different, the one piece Tundra turns into three piece Sequoia. The bumper fillers are different (under headlights). Tundra's bolt to the fender, a bracket off-of the radiator support, and finally to the bumper reinforcement. The Sequoia fillers are plastic and bolt onto the bumper reinforcements on either side as well as requiring another set of mounts just to attach them to the fenders. If you've gotten this far, then you will find out the brackets coming off the radiator support are different, so now you will have to cut yours to the proper size and make holes so you can attach. Lastly, don't forget the hood opener on the grille. Different offset location and different length rod.

There are other differences like the actual metal bumper, plastic bumper support pieces, and etc. This, I'll hopefully be able to get into more once I have a more complete parts list and process required.

Ok update time....

This is the absolutely required parts list for this conversion to work. There might be small pieces missing but that is details.



As you can deduce the hood, headlights, fog lights (with plastic bumper), and fenders (late model SR5) remain the same. If you lack the fenders, I heard it may be possible to add the SR5 flares to standard fenders but I can't confirm that.

Actual truck modification is minimal. You need to trim the bumper support brackets as shown below. Afterwards, another hole gets drilled up top to secure the new bumper support.



Bumper side support pieces are different from the Tundra one's, but I'm not sure if they are 100% necessary so I bought them anyway.



The bumper cover support is completely different including the fillers below the headlights. This is pictured below.





The last picture shows the bumper fillers in place. They use their own retainers, pictured below.




Lastly, the "almost" finished product and a bumper comparison shot.





Overall I think the process is well worth it and the appearance change is drastic. Things to note would be... fender liners need changed since the Sequoia liners are wider due to the fact that flares are actually part of the bumper cover. The hood latch can be made to work with the Sequoia grille but the rod will need bent/modified and the lever will be pushed in on the left instead of right. The Sequoia grille location is slightly shifted when compared to the Tundra. Fog lights are 100% plug and play so no worries there.

The headlights came from eBay from the seller "oemassive". I wanted black housing Depo's but no such luck, they don't exist. In either case, I'm not a fan of chrome so I went with the one's linked below. Not the best quality but I think they will do the job just fine. I didn't expect the light output to be as good as the OE so I also installed a hi/lo 55W HID kit.

Thanks for the kind words, make me feel good knowing my efforts are appreciated. I'd be lying if I said that your initial post didn't both serve as encouragement and guide through this process. As I mentioned above, there isn't a direct comparison anywhere and the technical diagrams do a poor job showing the differences. So for that, thank you!

 

Mixflip on youtube went the the sema show and there was a sequoia with a 3rd gen tundra front end, it looked B.A.

Part of me feels as though there had to be some extensive custom work to pull it off though. If you look at the width, there's about 6 inches difference. It could mean the panels are just wider or the hood itself is wider. Either way I don't think it was just a simple bolt on feat.

I’m going to say no. I have an 06’ Tundra and 07’ Sequoia and I want to Tundra swap the Sequoia lol.

Like I said, I am just curious what about the sequoia front end draws attention? Is it the lines? The bumper? The clearance? A better grill? A more updated look? A more striking profile? I love how it looks but am curious if there is further reasoning behind it?

 

If asking a question is defensive then I guess I was justified after your offensive use of a question.

It's just preference. That was the point. It's like describing the color green to a person blind from birth. The reality is that it looks different and sometimes that's enough for some people.

I helped a friend Tundra swap an 03 Sequoia a couple years back so it’s very interesting to see it go back the other way. It does look nice though.
