If your a hard core off road dude and like sliding and wrestling around on big rocks then air lockers front and rear are the way to go. Regular Joe street driving, light off road, occasional heavy of road use then the LSD is what you want to go with.

Im on pavement over landing 99.99999 % of the time so the LSD was the choice for me. I will also be moving up to Alaska next month so the snow can fly all that it wants to when I get there. I have found so far that it is indeed totally BAD ASS for both back wheels to hook up and spin when you need them to. Completely different having the LSD vs the "electronic braking trick" that the truck trys to play to try and get both back wheels spinning together.

I checked into if there were E lockers out there for Tundras but no one is making them. Just the air and LSD.

I think the an air locker up front and the LSD in the rear would be a way to go too if you think that you will be needing to DRAG yourself around by the front end sometimes. I intentionally didn't do the air locker up front to keep from tempting myself into getting into situations that I know that I do not need to be putting myself or my truck into. ;)

Air locker or nothing from ARB. I asked then too if they had an LSD, no cigar.

Not really bud. Been having a ton of issues.

One of which was a pissing trans fluid leak between the trans and transfer case. After 3 Novak adapters, I think I've resolved it. I've got like $2500 in adapters sitting on my coffee table. Nothing against their products since they are top notch, but literally 10mm difference of where the seal rides on the transfer case input was causing me major headaches. Removing the little adapter fixed everything.

Secondly, I put a stock torque converter in there during the initial build. Bad. Idea. I make too much power, along with 5.38s and 37s, she would push through the brakes in drive and it was even worse in 4lo.

Thirdly, after all the leak issues, I decided to finally go flat belly and mod my trans mount. That led to raising my crossmember, which led to shifter changes, and line changes, and finally the biggest PITA was the exhaust. Originally I decided to go stainless and spray transfer weld it. It held great but looked like poo. So, of course, I decided to upgrade my welder so that I can TIG weld it. Then I had to teach myself to TIG weld.. I just finished the exhaust literally today and assembled it. Still need the tail pipe section to pull it out from under the jeep to reduce the drone.

Fourthly, I finally upgraded to a 92mm FAST TB to match the FAST manifold and she breathes A TON better. I'm thinking there are 20-30ish horsepower to be had. This means new tune though, but after chasing my tail with it, I can finally put enough air into the motor without maxing out the IAC. Lowered the idle to 750 and oh boy is she choppy. That cam finally sounds like I wanted it to.

Once the exhaust is finalized and I get some seat time with the laptop, I'm gonna go see if I can break more shit. I have a trip out to the badlands with some buddies from Michigan on the weekend of 9/22. So that's the next planned outing. Nothing like leaving things to the last minute to really motivate you...

Damn. Sounds like it was real, it was fun, just not real fun.

I told a couple guys around here the same thing about the TC. You will drive right through your brakes.

I might go 5.3 on mine as well. Not sure I want to do an LQ4, LS3 heads, mild cam and break all my shit.

Jay, that would be awesome to get some 5.29 gears. That would put you in the right gearing selection as a stock Tundra.

A 5.3 is plenty. If you wanted to get fancy, cam it, heads and a good intake manifold and you'll make 400 easy.

    Sorry OP for thread jacking.

You are a patient man Jay. That is a compliment. You research the shit out of everything and pick what is best for you. Saves a bunch of heartache down the road, and a thinner wallet.

Thanx bro, like you said.. act on impulse and you'll be spending lots.. if he didn't tell me they were in production I would have regeared last week.. but I don't want to drop $900-1200 and 2-3 months later the new ones come out.. I hope it's soon tho.. driving around in tow haul mode eats up gas like crazy!!!!!!!!

Hi, I was just searching for gear upgrade info and see this thread. I am new to this but, I need something bigger than 4.88. I have 38" tires and wow..no power. They look great but, I wish I would have kept the 37's. Do you know what company will be putting out the 5.29? I hope soon cause Im afraid to tow my travel trailer.

I think it was Motive Gears that have them in production now.. as said earlier someone here in Vegas is getting them done thru Motive Gears.. I also spoke to a guy at Just Differential and he said he didn't know when they would be making some 5.13 or 5.29 since demand is so small.. he told me to have any many people call them and request them so they could start production also. They need more people to call about them so they know they will have the buyers for them.. so I would do that. Everyone and anyone that's running 37's + should be asking about 5.29 so they see they are wanted.. closed mouths don't get fed
