I have been hi-centered more times than i can remember. Grinding off bolts and peeling back differential covers is not new to me. I've never run aluminum skids before but don't believe that they will be inferior to the steel. Only time will tell. I believe the best skids are probably 1/2" slick plastic. They allow you to slide off the rocks and don't gouge or dent.

On RCI's Facebook page they have pics of the aluminum skids after shooting a .22 cal and barely even dented them. I think we're good!

Dunno if a Tundra hung up on a sharp rock is akin to a .22, or more like a .577 Nitro, but whatever sells stuff, use it. The RCI stuff is high quality, that's certain.

    FYI
The TRD Pro skid is heavier than the RCI

The RCI guys and I spoke about this today. Something doesn't add up, because at the shop the RCI transmission skid plate was too heavy even for two men to handle, so the transmission lift was necessary to get it up to flush. It may be that the front skid plate weighs a lot less. For the aluminum plates, the small difference in weights is probably the difference in the bolts, not included in the RCI weight and included in the Toyota weight.
And another thing: Why doesn't Toyota include the TRD Pro front skid plate on all TRDs? The stock OEM plate is a sham, and the cost difference between the two can't be THAT much. To me, this is a sad example of how the accountants at Toyota tried to save a few pennies.

    @pamtnman
I have the RCI aluminum transfer case skid. I like it a lot and agree that they make an awesome product.
Regardless, I'm just trying to help forum members get complete information. If you're going to run down the Toyota oem stuff please be accurate and specific.
Maybe I'm looking at the wrong skid but this is what their site says

Different skid plate. The TRD Pro plate is different than the TRD OEM plate. Go figure. Why all TRDs wouldn't get the same front skid plate is a mystery. Toyota didn't save much money on this, but it does make them look silly. And cheap. If we spend the extra bucks on the TRD, we should get a full size skid plate up front. My littlest kid couldn't even sled on the one that came with it.

I agree. The skid plate on the TRD Off Road is a joke.

I plan to go with a TRD Pro or RCI down the road for more protection, the access for oil changes is nice too.

yeah buddy! Way to go! What is with this ultra reflective chrome in the mobile office, anyhow? It reflects sunlight directly into my eyes. It's been on my mind how to deal with it. Do you believe your paint will really hold up? I was going to cut a piece of roofing rubber and just lay it over. Itll look terrible but work ok

An alternative to painting is the 3m wrap, I used one called "brushed steel " that matched the texture on each side of the head unit. @boardude used another:

Thank you, GoSolo. Great help! I'm now shopping for the wrap and figuring out which one I want. Least reflection is the goal

If you're looking at a few similar colors I would order some samples first. I got mine for a buck each from here www.metrorestyling.com. Glad I did too cause some looked slightly different from the pics online and I ended up going with a different color than originally intended

I wrapped the HVAC bezels too. Then I wrapped the Toyota emblem in the middle of the steering wheel, but that turned out really crappy, too many tight sharp corners!

What did you have to do to pop them out? Any bolts or screws? Or is it just a legit pop and out.

I am thinking of buying this set of headlights for my truck. Anyone has experience with these? Are these decent? Does the price seem reasonable? This would be my first mod

Get yourself a trim tool kit. These truck are built like LEGOS. Everything just snaps together.

A can of PlastiDip will work fine. 4 or 5 coats and it'll be good to go.

I spent 2 hours cutting and fitting a piece of vinyl for the steering wheel. It still looks like crap but I'm not blinded the emblem any more.

All excellent advice, thank you! I ordered 5'x6' of the matte black wrap to cover up the interior chrome, all of which is blinding. Thanks, boys, you guys are great.

Only Devil Horns are made in batches with a custom finish option.
All other emblems such as TRD, Model T, etc. are available any time.
