Dealer showed me truck with nitrogen amongst other dealer adds. I told sales lady that I did not want. She said well we can't take out. I said yeah but you don't have me for it. She tried to tell me that I got a flat that the nitrogen would inflate the tire. I said "who fed you that line of crap"? She said no really it does. I said whatever you want to believe.

Nitrogen in passenger vehicle tires has 1 purpose: make more money for dealerships. Another reason I get all my tires at Les Schwab. They refused to offer hydrogen because they new it was a total rip off to the consumer.

HYDROGEN????? i thought we learned our lesson with that in the blimps......

on a side note, there are some real benefits to nitrogen, but the misinformation on it is too much to overcome at this point.

My Cooper tires require special air only found on K2 in the Karakoram Range.

costco inflates with Nitrogen. I don't mind it as it's included. Tires seem to deflate less over time.

Hydrogen is highly explosive. That would be like driving around with 4 or 5 bombs. Get a leak and a spark and you would be joing Jerry Lewis

I'm glad that Les Schwab doesn't offer H2 for tires. Lol!!!

Nitrogen is less susceptible to wide swings in temperature. On Earth tires big deal. More suited on Mars maybe.

The air we breathe is over 70% nitrogen anyways if I remember correctly.

I'd love for someone to do a test on all the vehicles that dealers claim have nitrogen filled tires. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them don't.

Gaseous Nitrogen is a decent gas for pneumatic pressurization, its used all the time in space launch pad systems in my line of work. It has its benefits, but in car tires it really isn't going to make much difference.

the biggest benefit is no moisture vs compressed air so your rims won't pit over time.

Nah, I have been assured and confirmed it on the innerweb that they're both in stasis in a cryogenic parlor in Mexico

Cant take the nitrogen out??????Show her a valve stem remover lol.

about 76ish%. This is also the reason it is the cheapest packaged gas...unless you get taken by a crazy sales guy for some higher price.

I asked one dealer if they created a vacuum in tire before putting in nitrogen. If not you still have air. Steel wheels might pit but not aluminum.

you don't need a vacuum. but you would have to purge it quite a few times in order to remove any other trace atmospheric gases....and like in the Pro thread I doubt whatever tech is trying to make money is sitting back there taking the time to purge each wheel 4 or 5 times then fill.

Exactly^^^^Nitrogen is good for that because it's inert and dry which minimizes corrosion.

I occasionally use nitrogen in my tires. I don't worry about adding pressure, only when i air down. Biggest benefit i could see is using in the spare tire so its not flat when you need it. I used to keep 2 spare sets of tires for another car in my garage. Never needed to add pressure after years of sitting with nitrogen.
