I'm thinking about starting a series on armoring or "Hardening" your Tundra. Before I do though I wanted to see if there was any genuine interest. We all know about the retrofitted D's out of Florida but most folks don't have 150K+ to sink into a truck. So I thought maybe a thread that talked about soft points and armor options might be useful. LMK What you think.

Given North Korea's getting itchy fingers on their buttons... Can we EMP-proof our trucks?

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
    That would be great.

Too many variables and frankly I'd be more worried about running out of gas than an EMP disabling the truck permanently. Its unlikely that an air burst would actually affect the vehicles in the long run although you may have to unhook the battery and do a hard reset. Most of the studies done were flawed our are private. Here's a good white paper on it if you're truly worried.

If its bad enough for all the cars to go down hard then the odds of making it beyond a week are pretty slim for most folks. I won't go into details here but let's just say the average person keeps less than 3 days food and water in their home. No power, no clean water, no heat or AC, No LEO or EMT's to answer calls for help. Mass casualty events overwhelming surviving medical personnel with little to no resupply. No way to get fuel from the pump to the truck. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Yeah... We're pretty effed if there's an air burst, but the trails will be empty... May as well enjoy my last 3 days if I can keep baby truck running...

I'm super interested to see what you recommend for non nuclear holocaust hardening...

    Thanks for the response!

No fuel, no truck, no traffic. If an EMP is ever dentonated own a horse, and you better be really well armed. :infantry:

If you read much, read a book titled
-One Second After, it will change the way you think forever about EMP's, I promise.

Are you going to harden the mechanical components also to handle the extra weight?

I have a 'small device' solar charger and expect to be able to access the information on my kindle indefinitely. Available from REI and Amazon.

I hope it works Ray, but I would not count on anything especially delicate electronics having a pulse.

The older 'paperwhites' are not very high tech and use little battery. I'm doubtful that they would be impacted at all by an EMP unless actually turned on at the time. They have got huge internal storage capacity.

I thought it was about global warming softening the tundra across Canada and the need to harden it so we wouldn't sink
