Bought this truck about 10 years ago from my brother-in-law who was the original owner so I couldn't pass up the deal for owning one of my favorite engines in the 2UZ-FE for $5500 with 122000 miles. I did add a Banks Monster exhaust to make sure it has a proper V8 sound as well as dremeling out the air box and removing the charcoal filter. Also added an adaptor to the stock stereo to hook up an old iPod (yes, Im almost 60 haha) and upgraded all the speakers.

I have had the usual problems with this 1st gen including
1-gas cap issue causing a vacuum leak. It only happens once or twice a year, so I just reseat the cap and clear the code.
2-tailgate handle breaking. Replaced it and make sure to lubricate every six months to prevent further seizure of the mechanism.
3-battery drain. Multimeter reading led to towing relay as the culprit. I just pulled the relay and store it in the truck, no more dead batteries since.
4-Overdrive light malfunction. Located affected worn wire and added electrical tape, pretty simple.
5-Rear window latch breaking. Bought the billet aluminum part on eBay for a few bucks to replace that broken plastic piece.
6-Airbag light on. I haven't bothered with this issue
    Almost forgot
7-passenger window gets stuck when going up, sometimes it might take a few hours to go all the way up. Haven’t bothered with that either

I truly love this truck and almost every day, someone asks me if I want to sell. Its so easy to work on and love the acceleration and torque. Getting ready to replace the original shocks/struts and any worn links and Im probably going to get it repainted this winter since the Texas sun is so brutal and Toyota paint is subpar (compared to my other vehicles).

Yes, thanks for the hyperlink. It is quite an extensive list of troubles.

The lower ball joint was replaced at the dealer at 56K and timing belt was replaced at 103K. My odometer is at 180K now, so I will definitely look into getting a new one. I have only replaced 3 out of 4 oxygen sensors and all the ignition coils, which is all I've needed to do other than regular service maintenance.

If you bought it at 122k 10 years ago then it's starting to push it on age alone. May want to pull the cover back and check on that belt. They very so much you could have a terrible looking belt or it could look just fine.

Just finished checking the timing belt (and losing 10lbs of sweat in 114 degrees) and it actually looks pretty good, similar to the drive belt. I am still planning on changing the timing belt (and the original water pump, can’t believe it made it to 185K)
