Don't over look brands that aren't "heavily advertised". I had a pair of 285's that were MasterCard courser mxt and they were badass. And for the price, I loved them. But I got a set of ko2's at's since I was commuting like an hour and a half one way. Id easily go back for my next set

I'm considering the Falken Wildpeaks in 305/65/18 also.. I'm really back and forth on this.

Those are nice also, I would have also considered those if they had them in the 285/70. Also the 305's will be heavier

You'll never know until you try it man. My yoda dealership turned me onto the coursers and I was hesitant and just pulled the trigger.

You can fit a full size spare with some modifications to the guides under the bed. It may not be possible with the added size of CB shackles. I think someone did a write up on it.

Spare is stock size. If anything, put the spare in the front if you ever have a flat

I did the Bilstein 6112's at top setting with 1" in the rear. Did 1.25" wheel spacers on stock +60mm offset 18 wheels with Nitto Ridge Grappler 295/70r18s and have Body Mount rub at full lock in reverse, and while hitting bumps at a sharp uphill turn. Ordered new Fuel Vectors with +20 offset to replace spacers and get rid of Body Mount Rub. Bought the Nittos at Discount, so I can still trade them in for smaller size, just the 295/70's look perfect.

Interesting that this thread was on the front page today because I was just going to inquire about a BMC/CMC.

I just installed 295/70r18s last night. Actual measurements are 34.25/12. I am running an 18x9 +12 wheel. After removing the mud flaps completely I still rub ever so slightly against the body mount when at full wheel lock. Front of the wheel well is fine as I have an aftermarket front bumper.

Honestly I could live with this but hate the idea of not being able to jam my ridiculous truck in the tinyest of parking spaces without adding a couple of points to my maneuvers. Sounds like a few of you here have done the BMC/CMC and lived to tell the tale.

Anything I should look out for? For those of you who have done this, have you experienced any problems getting dirt and road shit in the area behind what used to be a mud flap? Has anyone come up with a remedy for this?

I'm definitely going to take this to an experienced shop - I typically go to Fat Bob's (not really close but worth the drive for their knowledge and service). I'm a little disappointed now that I went with 34s instead of 35s now that I'm eating the whole banana anyway, but they do look pretty great.

I must admit; I responded to this thread partially to gather more knowledge but mostly in hopes of reviving a months old argument that was clearly very entertaining.

What tires? I'm about to throw some 295/70 STT Pros on an 18x9 +25 with aftermarket bumper. I'm assuming I'll have to lose the mudflaps. Hoping to avoid any BMC/CMC.

I think you'll be fine with +25, probably have to remove the mud flap but almost certainly won't need a BMC.

I went with Mastercraft Courser CXTs. They are made by cooper and comparable to the ST MAXX. I almost went with the STT Pros too but got a smoking deal on these. So far I'm really happy with them, ride great, pretty quiet, aggressive look. Haven't been offroad yet.

Not a great picture. Did my best when I got home just before dark. I ended up ordering 285/70s from discount. Not paying anything to swap. About a half inch smaller all around. I love how these 295s look, but I’m not willing to have rubbing or do a bmc.

All my buddies keep telling me the same thing. Do a BMC, it’s no big deal. Idk though. Just don’t want to do cutting on my basically new truck.

Did you put these new wheels on yet? You won’t get rid of the body mount rub, it’s actually going to get worse.

Yeah we put the wheels on and the dudes at the tire shop realized that the rub got worse too. I sorta feel like I told them that but hey, math is hard.

as much as i love the look of the 295 70s i think im going to go with a 285 70 on either a +25 or +18 wheel. depends on which method i like when the time comes. not only do i know they will fit with no rub but there is about a 10lb difference between the 295 and 285 ridge grappler. 40lbs of rotating mass can definitely be felt
greytundra87: curious to hear your impressions of the 285 ridge grappler?

Please post pics when u get the 285s on with the new wheels. I'm debating the whole 285 295 thing myself.

For sure. It’ll be a couple weeks before it all gets put on. Taking off for a couple weeks and new tires are coming in while I’m gone. But as soon as I get them, I’ll make sure and post pictures.

Just put on some 295/70r18s on my Tundra. 6112s in the front. 5100s in the rear with 1 inch blocks. I don’t notice any rubbings except I had to bend the front plate and take out the small front mud flap on the front of the truck.

    See fine print
I don’t remember if you have aftermarket UCA. But if you don’t, you can install some and gain a lot of caster putting your wheels further away from the cab mount. Just an option in case you didn’t think of.

I do have aftermarket.UCAs, just not a lot of room to love forward without rubbing in the front instead. I did consider this though.

I think a cab mount chop is in the works.

I have the Camburg 1.5" uniball UCA's. I'm going to take it in and see if they can adjust the castor to get the tire further up in the wheel well. One last hail mary to get those 295's to fit.
