Well, we looked at this place today.

Not moving there. Layout was nice, but wasn't taken care of, water run off nightmare, and just can't see spending 600,000.00 on something I really don't like. Shop was nice, one light, 220V outlet and that is it.

I'm leaning towards building. If I'm going to spend it, I'm going to enjoy it.

Here is my take on Colorado I lived there for 20 years
    Car registration is really high
Denver just put in its second toll road more likely to come
Some of the finest beer in the country with the best variety
Not as scenic as you think there are lots of beautiful place to go and lots to do if you like the outdoors. But there are some really flat and ugly places in Colorado.
I wouldn't say the people are that friendly. I found the northern part to be really unfriendly and not open to other viewpoints while the southern part to be a lot more friendly and open to other views.
This state has become not gun friendly for a current gun climate I suggest doing some research on https://www.rmgo.org/ This organization fights really hard for gun rights of Colorado and has a national counter part https://www.nationalgunrights.org/ If you look at appointed officials it leans only one way.
The crime rate is some place is really bad and there are really dangerous parts of Colorado. Before I left there was a rash of antipolice threats and an increase in crime rate. There is a huge meth problem in Colorado.
There is a lot of homeless people in Colorado and there has been areas of private property trashed because of it. I have seen a few bum fights on street corners aswell.
In regards to real estate you can find some awesome deals I think the best bang for your buck is Colorado springs. Northern Colorado is going to have some problems in the future more than likely you are going to get into a bidding war and overpay for the house. When I sold my house in northern Colorado after 3 years of owning(bought before the pot laws sold after) the price went from 160k to 215k and it was on the market for 3 days with 25 visits and 15 bids. On the other hand my parents bought a house in Colorado springs and got a awesome house for a awesome price.
If your in health care heres the deal from my personal experience the health care is 95% corporate and consolidated. UC health is probably the best only because they offer a pension and 401k options. Getting in to see a specialty doctor is getting pretty bad and takes longer and longer. There isn't really a shortage of hospitals or urgent cares since the corporations are in a huge turf war at the moment. So if you hurt yourself really bad they will get you somewhere good with I think at least 2 corporate life flights available.

    I'll add my two cents.

I moved here with my Fiance about 2.5 years ago, coming from the suburbs of the Twin Cities, MN. We're currently renting a single family home in the northern Front Range and it's about the max of our rental budget, and the house is old and a bit run down. We considered buying out here, but the real estate market is ridiculous compared to anywhere but the hottest markets in the US, and the prices are inflated substantially higher than what I am used to seeing. My sister recently bought out in Brighton (northeast of Denver by about 30 minutes or so) and was only able to afford it due to down payment assistance and being on USDA land. As others have said, the entire Front Range is expensive, and costs are going up as more "rich" state residents (looking at you, CA) come here, as the state is cheap compared to CA but it's expensive to almost everywhere else. I hope you like transplants; almost everyone I've met is from out-of-state, and this creates a nightmare when winter hits -- tons of people from southern climates suddenly realize their car/abilities aren't equipped to drive in the sudden, heavy snow storms we often get. Sure, it melts quickly, but the day or night of the storm wreaks havoc on traffic. Growing up in MN, I was shocked to see how bad some people drive in winter -- or what they try to get away with driving (summer tires on a sports car trying to go up an incline in 6 inches of snow? Ha, good luck).

The Rocky Mountains are amazing, but again, because of the people, getting to and from lots of good spots (especially the ski hills) can be hell. At least you can say it's the most beautiful traffic jam you'll ever be in? Living anywhere near the mountains will cost you, but you can get away from that if you plan to live anywhere else (South, east, or far west) - although you'll be getting a totally different Colorado. Eastern is way more akin to a Nebraska/Kansas feel, Southern starts to approach a New Mexico or true "southwest" / desert at altitude feel, and I can't comment on West as I've never been over there. So the question really becomes "live in an expensive area, with more laws, less space, more traffic, better views & access to the mountains where everyone else is running to" or "live in a place that doesn't feel like Colorado, but has slightly looser laws, more space, is a bit cheaper & less traffic".

Overall, while the state is beautiful and has a ton of great things going for it, it's just not good enough to stay in for my Fiance and I. We'll be moving back to MN next year. I can totally understand why someone would leave a state like CA and find CO attractive, but coming from the other side of the spectrum caused my rose-colored glasses to fall off.

I am one of the few Colorado natives and would love to leave this state if the wife would ever give in. I hate the cold that comes half the year. I would love to live on a tropical beach somewhere, but who wouldn't? Set the cold aside I would say Colorado is a good, yet expensive place to call home.

This is one of the reasons I no longer snowboard, and I love it. I'm not paying the huge prices for anything (surprised they don't charge to take a shit), the crowds, and BS that comes with all of that. I'm just sick of it. Shit thing is we own time shares in Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, and Steamboat...and we don't use them. Time to sell.

I'm really starting to understand the movie "Falling Down" more and more every day.

This thread is an interesting read for someone from Texas possibly looking to move out. Colorado Springs was the only place I could see moving to. Other than that it seems like Idaho and Wyoming would be better choices. These 5-6 months of summer heat get old down here.

Pretty sure Colorado Springs is no vacancy. You'll thank me later when your not paying 500k for a POS house or buying in a neighborhood where the houses are 5' apart and you can hear your neighbor do his morning glory piss and fart.

    Your welcome.

So if you decide on buying here and totally dismiss my advice, plug in the address of the home you wish to purchase to this link. If your house is anywhere near one of these slide zones, don't buy.

    http://m.gazette.com/map-see-if-you...risk-zone-in-colorado-springs/article/1575018

Again, your welcome. Some of the foundation repairs cost 100-150000.00 and work some of the time.
Two years ago a 10,000,000.00 dollar house was ripped in half not but 7 minutes from my house.

From the small sample on realtor.com I noticed that the majority of houses were trailer houses and extremely overpriced in that area

Agree pretty much, but best bang for the buck is San Luis Valley. Cost of living is the lowest but so are job salaries there but housing costs vs salary ratio is way better there than here in Denver Metro/Boulder/Springs.. Great people in San Luis Valley. Mostly Latino and 4+ generations there. I currently live near the medical complex that includes the new VA hospital, Anshutz Cancer, UC Childrens Hospital and not far from Aurora Medical Center. Arguably one of the top medical centers on the planet. Denver Metro is stupid high rent and home prices. There is a reason besides housing shortage. Everybody and their brother is moving here because the economy is exploding. Only behind Texas and Utah. If you are are a STEM engineer or medical you can ask your price and be able to afford most anything here. Our calibration Lab has never been busier. A very good indication of how things are going here and I've been here 14 years. When the economy is good........the high tech companies/ hospitals send in their moth balled test equipment in droves. We are getting more than we can handle now. Swamped. Looking to hire two more experienced techs. I know a lot of great scenic places here second to only AK (and Oregon) where I've been. Meth problem is a nation wide issue just like with opioids. Colorado has Red Rocks. Also ..if you get away from the front range the state is pretty much entirely gun friendly along with the Sheriffs who don't/won't enforce any stupid feel good anti gun law passed here in Denver. Of course crime is an issue here in Denver with the anti gun and sanctuary city policies. Check out Walsenburg. Nice. La Veta..Nice. No tourists and the best hunting in CO IMHO. Everybody wants to go to Craig or south west CO. Fine by me. South Central CO is way better than South Central LA. Car registration is fairly low compared to a lot of states like Kommiefornia and the northeast. I was surprised how low it was. Not cheap but not crazy high IMHO.

Just don't move to Texas... it's terrible here. I wish Trump would curve the wall he is going to build around the entire border of Texas, to keep the rest of the country out. Especially you guys from Oklahoma.

Colorado is beautiful, but it's full of quacks like @matluth, but since you are already used to the nuts in Washington, you will probably think Colorado is pretty normal.

I'm only kidding, by the way

Thanks for the complement. Zach lives in a nice part of the state too. Probably a few quacks there no doubt. At least they are not the majority like here in Denver Metro/Boulder......

I'd love to have some property in Colorado out in the middle of nowhere, like yours. I don't think I could move out of Texas, but I question that every time I come up to ski.

Honestly in my opinion. None of you should move to co. There are so many people that have moved here because of mj legalization and it's bull shit. Prices on everything is going up, minimum wage is going up which means there will be higher unemployment rates, and land prices are going up big time. If you want to get in nows the time. But if your asking for my opinion, stay out of my state.

The homeless seem to flock here somehow to get freebie joints that they pass out all the time and have pretty much ruined 16th St area. Oh....and the Rockies suck. Actually not too bad this year it's just that my Dodgers are kicking everyone's ass this year.
