Does anybody have an issue with their TRD shift knob Twisting all the way down without having any play In it. And if so is there anyway to fix it?

    I'm not understanding you.

It screws on, and has no play correct? Your knob shouldn't be moving/twisting once you have it set unless if you're removing it/tightening it back down.

It's screws down but even when it's screwed down all the way it's still has play where you can feel it wiggle from left to right and it will not get any tighter.

Before I switched mine to the Toytec shift knob, I had the same issue.

Most likely gets stripped after awhile and probably re-tapping won't help.

Try some plumbers tape on the treads. Might be an easy fix. My OCD would be off the charts with a loose gear shift knob.

When I bought my TRD shifter knob it turns out I did one to many turns when trying to tighten it down to what I thought was appropriate and it snapped/cracked the inner thread lock making it wobble. Seems to my they should screw on tighter but they don't. It's a fine line to being screwed on firmly vs just enough.

Yeah, the instructions say not to over tighten it. So with my OCD, it was an issue the first time I shifted it and it turned on me.

So my fix was to use a good amount of Blue Loctite on the threads, screw it down into position and let it sit over night.

    Problem solved.

Way better. Stock one sucks. ToyTec's runs around $60. Not much mark up.

Does it get really hot in the sun? I have the one that comes on rock warriors and the aluminum on the sides gets really hot in the summers.

Well, I did the same thing. Cracked inner thread . Were you able to fix it? How? This loose TRD shifter knob is going to make me crazier!

JBWeld May work for that issue.
Custom shifter knobs can be cumbersome some times.
I keep fiddling with my new purchase and I think I’m there, time will tell. Sold 15.00 purchase

Nope, but then again I didn't try. I went to Toyota and bitch that it came that way and the guy ordered me a new one for free. I know I lied, but Toyota should give a warning to consumers to not turn to much. I mean, who would'nt keep turning until it was tight?

    Just getting started
It's one of the weaker points of the tundra is the standard shift knob. The cheap hollow plastic feel doesn't set a time of quality. Especially in the 80s when Toyota made their brand built on placing higher quality plastics/rubber in high touch areas. Then they throw this cheap hunk of plastic on here? Honestly in 2017 I would have bought a tundra, but it was such a huge turnoff that I bought a Tacoma. A few years later, bought a platinum, immediately upgraded to all black TRD shift knob and turned until it was snug...doesn't move, love it.
