Hey guys I'm new to the thread and am looking for opinions. I am looking to get a new truck and I'm torn on whether to get a 2012 Silverado or a 2012 tundra. I am also looking to put a 6in lift with 35's on it. What I want to know is what will be more reliable in the long run and what we be cheaper to repair. I have heard that tundras are a lot more reliable and have more power, but have a lesser quality interior. Any and all opinions are welcome thanks!

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Food for thought. I had 155,800 miles on my 2008 Tundra and traded it for a new 2017 I got $ 12,500.00 from the dealership.

    This is my 3rd Tundra.

I say Tundra if your asking me

Tundra all the way. It will hold its value much better than the Chevy and save you boat loads in repairs since there won't be any to do. A properly maintained Toyota will last.

I had a 1500 for 2 days. Went right back to the dealer when the CEL came on the next day. Next thing I know, I was in a Toyota Tacoma.

The Tundra will also have a higher resale value.

Has anyone over on the Silverado forums recommended a Tundra? Seriously though. Its all about reliability. Toyota has it, Chevy doesn't.

You couldn't give me a 1/2 ton GM product.

    -Cylinder deactivation
-Low power, with the 5.3 and 35's with a 6" lift, you're gonna be hating life.
-The Tundra with a lift (no matter the generation) looks bad ass. No dispute there.
-Small ass rear axle and not sure if in that year GM went back to rear disc brakes from drum.

Tundra! Chevys can be kinda a pain in the balls when you lift them especially the newer ones

Go on a tundra forum......ask about both tundra and Chevy......did you really think it was gonna turn out differently than it did??

I'm a fan of the interior. Have you seen the 3rd gen interior? Not outdated by any means IMO

Besides.....I'd rather a solid performing truck with crappy interior than a crappy performance and tricked out interior.

All of my techs have Chevy trucks and they are nothing but problems, even when new. I have a 2015 that i drive as a company vehicle and i'm the only one that hasn't had issues. Out of all of the guys that got new 2015s when i did, i'm the only one that hasn't had any issues but i only have 30,000 miles. I thought about trading my tacoma in for a chevy but the very first one i drove started smoking after the test drive. VERY QUICKLY i took the 2016 Tacoma across the street and worked a killer deal on my Tundra

After everything I've seen so far I'm def leaning tundra because of the reliability and power. I do not care about interior either but I do care about how the truck looks on the outside. I think the small front the tundra has is a little weird, but that's about it. Also thanks for responding everyone because people on the chevy forum don't know how to respond at all lol.

I had nothing but trouble and recalls/calibration updates with my 2014 Silverado, so I traded it in on my 2016 Tundra - previously had Chevys, but never again. I happen to like the looks and enjoy the comfort of my Platinum. You mention the small front end...I like not having to get out my step stool to check the oil! I can generally reach everything and the battery itself is a simple operation to change. Not so easy with the Silverado...location is awkward and it has a stack of cables clamped to it. Anyway, love my Tundra and no regrets for moving over.

I have no experience with new Chevy interiors but I love the inside of my Tundra....

I would encourage you to check out the interior of a low grade chevy Cobalt since you're going to spend a fair amount of time rolling in one of those as a courtesy car when your Silverado is in the shop getting fixed.

Go over to any GM website and just hang around and read. Good stuff.

My last free oil change was in Montana last week. The service advisor wanted to schedule me for my next one. I laughed and pointed at the cost that would have been mine and said "I will be doing them from now on" and walked out the door.

127.00 for an oil change and DEF fill? I can do it for less than half that cost.

Then they wanted to change my fuel filter at a tune of 130.00. I laughed and said the filter has 80% life on it. I already have 3 filters at home waiting to be used. I don't just change things out just for shitzngiggles.
