Hi I just purchased my 2018 tundra sr5 double cab with the 8ft bed on Monday last week learning a few things aren't as advertised current mods (all from previous owner) it has a loght bar I haven't figured out how to turn on yet and looks like the fog lights are aftermarket as well the camper shell has some lights other than that I think it's pretty much stock looking into keys and fuel mileage upgrades first then I'll look into some tool storage options for my work tools currently in the cab with the backseat folded up

Thanks for the warm welcome what's everyone doing to get fuel mileage I'm currently getting 12-13 mpg really thought it should be getting at least 15 with my mix of in town and highway driving

MPG is directly related to how you drive. I drive very conservatively (most of the time) and get an average of around 17 mpg.

I'm not arguing with you but my 99 Silverado I averaged 18 I don't think it's my driving style that's the difference I understand that this truck has the 8ft bed where my Silverado was a short bed but still I think the biggest difference is likely 4.88 gears vs 3.73 with the extra overdrive maybe the fuel mileage will even out on a road trip doing freeway driving but in town you can't get to the high gear

Yes, the Tundra does not do as well as other makes in the MPG category. The gears and transmission are one of the big reasons. The driving style comes into play when comparing different Tundra owners' experiences.

Thanks again for the warm welcome... so I just drove the tundra from Dallas to Phoenix and back writing notes along the way ... down hill with a tailwind it gets 18mpg (happened twice) 15 if you get a head wind or any level of incline and before we start with drive conservative or change driving style I did everything I could to keep the blue bar as high as I could but it disappears the second you tap the accelerator and the truck won't coast up hill ... so I'm looking at a rear axle assembly from a 2018 tundra sr5 with the 4.6l had 3.90 gears I know the transmission will likely need to be tuned to it and I will have to swap the whole housing because the 10 inch also has bigger axles but is there any reason it won't swap? Will the brakes from the 10 inch bolt on or do I need the 9 inch brakes also? I also plan on doing some other changes but I suspect this will prove to be the most bang for the buck as far as fuel mileage goes has anyone else done this swap or reverse?

Updates I found a complete axle assembly for a 2018 sr 4.6l with 3.90 gears I'll get it probably next month I did change the spark plugs the plugs I took out didn't look all that bad but were Denso and looked a bit burned I'm curious if they don't have 108k miles on them the plugs I put in are ngk iridium gapped to .043 I also installed a cold air intake from rough country haven't driven it much to know if fuel Mileage has improved but it sounds a ton better so we will see what happens at the end of this tank of gas I'm also going to start looking at exhaust options I wonder if anyone makes headers for this thing if a dual 2.5-3 inch system wouldn't be a good way to go.
