Hey guys! I found the forum on google while trying to figure out what lift to buy. Looks like a good resource cant wait to dig through old posts to learn the answer to the age old quandry of.....Bilstein 6112 / 5160 combo or Fox 2.0 set up.....feel free to point me in a direction! Really depends on how you plan to use the truck, what the budget allows, how long you plan to own the truck, what you have now that could possibly be kept, future modification plans, etc. Share the facts of everything and many people here will throw opinions at you. I'll start with plan to buy once and get over the costs. It won't be cheap to do it well because as with everything else one thing leads to 5 others. Good luck!

Its my daily, im out in the stix a bit here in Utah but for the most part im looking to level the truck out, make it a bit more capable but still something i can take on long trips. Ive had the big huge long travel yaa yaa and i do not want this to be that. The goal is to run 33s maybe one day 35's once i change the bumper but its not a must.....im leaning towards the bilstein 6112 w/5160s in the back. I think im just going to buy a spring compressor and build them myself since ive heard so many horror storys about people getting built shocks / struts set up wrong. The attraction for me to the fox 2.0 set up was the linnear valving, wife complains about how bumpy my truck is...and also that it comes complete and just needs to be stabbed in....i also like being able to adjust ride height while its on the truck. Im also interested in what shims to use where since my truck leans which im learning is a common thing. Going to be doing eveything in my driveway so looking to learn all the ins and outs of the job.

 

Fairly certain the Fox 2.0 can’t be adjusted while on the truck. Spring needs to be compressed with a spring compressor to rotate the ring. 6112/5160 are much more popular on the forum and the heights are known. I heard the Fox rides better but getting the right height might be more of a challenge.

 

Have a 2010 myself and love the eibach lift. and factory replacement . Truck feels better while driving and not so bouncy. It level outs my truck and i threw some 295/70/18 tires on and im done. I also added a coach builder shim on the driver side to compensate for the lean. It was pretty obvious before i threw that spacer in.

This entire job is doable if you have a jack and a few jack stands along with some tools. There are a few pictures in my build thread about it. Shoot me some questions if you have any.

 

That further pushes me towards the Bilsteins...i figured the foxs with the threaded body could be adjusted on the truck.....anyone have a good scource for the Bilstein set at a good price? Im willing to have them assembled if the work is done right.....also anyone know the spacer set up to get the front level?

What part? I just left Burbank for Utah a year ago!!! so happy i did it!

Also, i bit the bullet and ordered the 6112's on the 2.5 clip and 5160's for the rear!!

 

You want adjustable coilovers, not shims. Adding shims can cause the ball joints to be pulled apart. You can get some nice adjustable coilovers from Toytech. Check them out. For the rear, custom leafpacks using many thin leafs vs few thick leaves will ride better.

 

Do more homework before you make any purchases. You will be much happier in the end.

 

When you add shims or spacers you are adding to the fully extended shock length at full droop. That is what contributes to pulling upper ball joints apart. Not a good idea!
