I have 2019 Platinum, Crew Max. The tail gate has to be unlocked with the key. For what I understand, it’s a cheap factory design that the locking mechanism can’t be controlled remotely from the key fob.

Anyone knows of a kit or modification to control the tail gate lock remotely with the key fob?

    Thanks,

This became available as a dealer installed accessory (I think in 2019). Most of us ended up installing the OE set up.... Looks like you have a crewmax, so this would be the correct part# for you:

PK3B6-34JS0 Tailgate Lock $129.71 (this is what I paid last year to give you an idea)

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/2018-power-tailgate-lock-new-toyota-accessory.52150/

    I'm very happy w/mine

If you don't feel like installing yourself most Toyota dealers are happy to do it for you; and if you don't already know, some Toyota dealers have different rates for 'mechanical' vs. 'accessory' labor. Generally speaking though, the service dept won't tell you this outright, so you normally have to ask. The power tailgate lock is considered an accessory, so if they differentiate between the two labor types you'll find it to be a bit more reasonable for labor fees. (An example of this might be the dealerships service dept charges $130-$140/hr mechanical labor, but only charges $80/hr for accessories).

    Good luck!!!

Any reason this one wouldn't fit on a 2020? Post only shows through 2019.

Now that makes a lot more sense than $200 for an actuator. May have to get this one myself and just swap them out.

You may be able to swap just the actuator depending on the design of the one you have installed. The one I linked, that I installed on mine is a pretty simple deal to swap actuators, I even removed it and tried an extra actuator I had lying around just to be sure. Just slides out and the new one in, and standard plunger actuators are pretty cheap.

Mine looks exactly like the first one you linked. Even looks like the same wires so it may actually be the same one the original owner put in.

You can buy the parts for about $50.00 and DIY. I did mine that way. Been working perfect for 5 years

I think I might have the same issue as Sal. I have a 2019 Tundra with a dealer installed pop lock kit? The tailgate no longer automatically locks just makes a "buzzing noise". I'm thinking if I replace the whole part it will eventually do the same thing. I'm hoping it has been upgraded to something better, but wouldn't bet on it. I'm wondering if 3d printing a gear and gear "receiver" is more expensive than what its worth. The plastic has been worn out. I tried mixing some JB Weld and letting it dry just enough to re-thread but it was unsuccessful. Any thoughts?gear box.png gear and box.png

I have the pop & lock system on my 18. Over 100k miles on it, all perfect.

I didn't use the cheap taps, I wired it more permanently.

I've been told I am forgetful (I think.) So I won't likely always remember to lock the tailgate manually. Ugh, another upgrade I have to have!
