    Hi,
My '17 has 170miles and when the factory oil is done I'm thinking about installing Mobil one extended. I run a lot of hwy miles and think this oil would work well for me. What are you guys running in your trucks??

I've been using Mobil 1 Extended Performance for the last few years. I switched over from Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy. I think they are about the same (even though they say EP is better), but since their price difference is tiny, I went with EP.

If you go to mobile 1 website they have a drop down ...that you can put in the year make and model of your vehicle and it tells you what's recommended and what you can use as an alternative weight for your truck .

I hear that mobil 1 extended is the original formula and good stuff. My dealer charges 38.00 for an oil change, so i use oem 0-20 toyota synthetic. Supposedly is made by mobil1 with a toyota specific additive pack.

I just realized I have free service for 2yrs so I guess it will be Toyota oil and filters every 5k for 2yrs. Im glad to hear its synthetic cuz that is all I use in my other vehicles.

I do 5k or 6 months which ever comes first.
I dont drive much so i average 3500 in 6months. The oil is still clear in color. Hell i figured on oil changes every 6 months anyway so why not.

Could you briefly explain why you made the switch? I'm just curious.
I've been using the Advanced Fuel Economy with the green label for no specific reason, just what I ordered one day. I'm wondering without going into a long, dragged-out, chemical analysis, he-said she-said, war of words discussion if I should switch to the Extended Performance with the gold label before I order another 3 pack of 5 quart jugs.

The new Mobil 1 Annual oil (20k miles) is twice the price of the extended. I don't think its worth it.

If it's worth it to you, get on Amazon and order this:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008BHP68A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Toyota OEM filter is the best filter you can get for these trucks. As far as oil....go with what Toyota recommends. That's about all you need.

EDIT: For that cap, all you have to do is swap over the tube that comes with it with the plastic oil cap that is installed with the truck. Bend the tabs down and don't lose the spring. Same process for the new one and badabing badaboom you're done.

I read that EP is group 4 synthetic oil whereas AFE is mixture of group 3 and 4 (4 being superior). Then I saw the price difference between them and for a few bucks more, I decided to go with EP. Frankly, I can't tell the difference.

0-20 toyota oem is 3.50 a qt. At the dealer
Not sure what mobil1 is going for. Regardless of which one you use, they are some of the best oils on the market.

Doing some reading online it says the 0-20 Toyota oil is made by Mobil to Toyota specs. I'm ok with that and will just use the factory oil at the dealer I bought the truck from. I will say this about Mobil 1 about 10ys ago I was helping a friend who was catering food to about 1/2 of the nascar race teams. We had passes to go anywhere in the pit and garage areas. I stood there many times watching the shop mechanics rip open a case of Mobil 1 just like the stuff we buy at Walmart and pour it directly into the motor. No better endorsement than that imo.

Pretty sure Mobile1 has a contract with NASCAR, so of course they would.

I'm a little confused about this part. What exactly is it replacing?? is it the housing the filter screws on to??

Yes. Replaces the stock (plastic) one with a metal one. Little piece of mind if you plan on doing any creepy crawly which could potentially crack/break the plastic housing.

FWIW, I had one on my last Tundra and was one of the first things I purchased for my current Tundra.

The thing is not ALL the teams ran Mobil one so it may be more of a contract with a specific team (s). Either way my point was even though Mobil 1 may be a sponsor what impressed me was the oil was in a sealed box just like the off the shelf stuff we buy. I would have thought that Mobil would have made a race type oil just for the nascar teams but not so. I walked over picked up a bottle right out of the box and questioned the mechanic he said its plain ole Mobil 1.

Older vehicles, and older engines, sure. There are formulas out there that help those motors. As far as modern day vehicles/engines, the difference is negligible.

Kinda like saying/thinking one brand of milk is better than the other. At the end of the day, they are both processed and are about the exact same.
