I realize there are multiple threads on this, but I'm looking for some input from real world experience. It is my understanding that the factory front tow hooks, are for TOWING a vehicle ONLY and they should technically not be used to recover a vehicle, especially a vehicle that's heavily bogged in mud, sand, etc. (ie: snatch recovery)

(If you have used the factory hooks for lots of or intense recoveries please comment below)

As most of you know, the aftermarket support for front recovery points (not including aftermarket bumpers with welded clevis mounts) is weak. The only viable option is Rough Country's "Tow Hook Brackets" and other companies who have mimicked this design. (worth mentioning that RC does not give a rating for these)

    https://www.roughcountry.com/toyota-tundra-tow-hook-shackle-conversion-kit-rs145c.html

Does anyone have any REAL WORLD experience with these tow hook brackets made by RC or another company?

I want the ability to be recovered from the front utilizing these points (someone pulling me from the front via snatch strap or a 2:1 winch pull)

All input is appreciated, thank you.

I’d trust the OEM loops 100x more than anything sold by RC. I mean - they are selling it with $10 d-rings - what do you think the rating is on those?

    I'm afraid they’d go:boom:

High quality soft shackle, snatch strap, static strap, and a kinetic rope if you’re fancy and you’re gtg.

lol good point, imo the major upside to the RC mounts is that it allows the shackles to be oriented correctly...

also fwiw id be using high quality steel shackles

    Soft shackle doesn’t care.

Looking at the thickness of metal, size of hardware and the type of hardware used the OEM recovery points can obviously handle the weight of the Tundra. I am not a fan of the shape but I don't care as log as I have a way out

    G'day @Tundra18overland

Wondering what you ended up going with?
I'm in the same dilemma with my build. Have a trip coming up to Oregon dunes mid May so was prepping up my truck and this really concerns me.
I have a Smittlybilt hitch receiver with a D ring for the rear so that's covered. The front are factory tow points which I reckon could use something stronger.
    Cheers!

the consensus seems to be that the front factory hooks should be fine for recoveries. I plan on using them if needed. I did not modify or upgrade from them.

I ended up getting a factor 55 ultrahook for my smitty built 12k winch...also ended up with two of their US made shackles for my c4 bumper in front and one of their hitch points with stainless pin in rear with another shackle. I now need to ditch the old tow straps with metal hooks. Can't beat their quality and testing.

The factory hooks will handle any recovery you could possibly do. Something else will break before they do.

I don't have any real world experience to share with you on them front loops. They look beefy enough to me for a recovery. I suppose if you were deep stuck, like in sand, with a dead engine, it's possible to bend 'em, but generally when you're stuck, and the stuck truck can run and help, you just need a little boost to get going.

I read somewhere that these types of loops are intended only for tying the truck down when being transported. But for the life of me, I can't recall where I saw that. Wasn't sure if that was true or not.

Off topic, but related, I like to use the rear hitch tube with an insert and shackle and pull with that. And soft shackles are really nice; lightweight and easy to stow.

Thank you gentlemen. That is great to hear!

I was reading a thread on mud where a lot of LC 100 and 200 users have upgraded to the Tundra tow points up front and seeing a direct comparison plus all the points mentioned above really instill a fair bit of confidence and trust in these.

    Cheers!
