I know this has been covered before but I can’t find the exact post…..someone here posted a detailed and helpful install on the rci transmission plate and car guards. Mine came yesterday and I am hoping to get to installing them Sunday. The instructions leave a bit to be desired so I was hoping to see if anyone had a write up / link handy that they could share with any tips. Thanks in advance

Thanks so much; appreciate the help. These things are heavy so hopefully can get a buddy to come over and help set them in place.

Use a jack and block-o-wood if you got one. Makes things a lot easier.

Well I got the transmission plate and cat guards installed this morning; what a pain in the d!@&. These things are HEAVY!!!! I used a jack to set it in place. The instructions left a bit to be desired and the help from forum members was valuable. BUT I found out that my skid plate is missing. I could have sworn I had the front OEM tinfoil skid plate……but I got under there today and there was nothing. I installed it anyway and will look to get the rci one later when funds allow it. I will take pictures when it’s nicer out (raining) and I can get back under there. Two herniated discs, a lumbar fusion and inability to be a contortionist has me rethinking whether I should still be doing this stuff anymore!!!!

I preassembled the transmission plate with the cat guards according to instructions. I didn’t have to drill anything which was nice. I used the cross member mounting plate with the speed nuts for the front and slid the notched end of the rci transmission plate under there. I then jacked the rear of the plate into position and threaded the carriage bolts through the cross member. I used the heavy 3/4 washer (instructions call them backer plates) on top of the cross member with a lock washer and tightened the bolt. I torqued all bolts as best as I could and took it for a ride - no rattles or pops yet. Anything else I should have done?

2"CB shackles, bushings and 1 shim, lockerdown console vault, rear folding seat back mod, snugtop shell with opening side windows, 46g fuel tank, SDHQ sliders and hidden winch, Decked Drawers, Alcan leaf springs and got rid of the interior chrome
I’ve got similar back stuff plus a knee replacement. I still do most of the stuff myself on the farm equipment and trucks. Found this gizmo D2EBBCD7-2102-4D55-8231-C257DD77A7B0.jpgIt’s really helpful for getting up and down. If I plan out the program well I can kinda slide out of that thing onto my creeper to get underneath. Just try to anticipate all of the tools that you will need, lol

Got mine installed tonight. Thanks to the advice from folks here it was a pretty quick and easy install aside from the weight of the skid plate. I used a floorjack to lift the plate into place so I could fasten the front and rear cross member bolts. Used tape to hold the nut, lock washer and flat washer together until I could get the bolt through the rear cross member threaded. Major timesaver and went pretty easy. Glad for the cheater plate and speed nuts up front.

I bit the bullet and bought the engine skid as well - came in last Friday and installed on Monday. VERY a happy with the quality of work, craftsmanship and customer service from RCI. I have full undercarriage armor now (minus the fuel tank skid) and have more peace of mind with the cat protection.

Well finally got around to installing the RCI front skid plate, transmission skid plate with cat guards. Not bad. Would have been much easier with an extra hand.
