    Hey guys,

I recently got a new battery and noticed last time I filled up I went from 360 gas miles untill empty to 420. I got a new battery the same week. This is so weird to me wondering if anyone else experienced this? I do know that I got a bigger battery this time but I feel like a new battery wouldn't affect the gas range lol. The battery I got is from Autozone: 27F-EFB Duralast Platinum Enhanced Flood Battery. The battery I had before was the stock one that came with the car @2K miles.

    Thank you!

You didn’t gain range - the computer just reset to factory estimates from being disconnected so it hasn’t accounted for your driving behavior.

Good to know! Thank you for the reply. So the range is based on your driving behavior? Thought the range would be based on how many gallons are being filled up. I usually always fill up until it the gas pump stops at max (around 21 gallons).

Well - both. Useable gallons in tank x computer estimated mpg = range displayed.

Range still needs a mpg to calculate how many miles XX amount of gallons can provide. The range on my Tundra vs my wife's accord are very similar except I have a 38 gallon tank and I believe she has a 17 gallon tank. I get 16 mpg and she gets 34mpg.

Only thing that annoys me is on the Tundra, the number will slowly degrade over the tank. The accord, the distance can go up and down depending on current mpg. On a 4 hour highway trip, I can get the range on her car up to nearly 600 miles. In all city driving, it'll drop to 300's even though the tank has the same amount of fuel.

Hmm, this is very interesting...I feel like no matter what my driving habits high or low, it always fills up to 360 on a full tank before.

Just making sure to be on the same page were talking about 360 miles until empty for gas?

Yes and no. It’s not linear. If you drove until empty, could be more than 360 or less than 360. If you drove exactly 1 mile at 55 mph, that 360 may not drop to 359. If you went full send on the highway for 1 mile, your DTE may drop to 345. These are all scenarios.

best way to check this is to fill up full and reset your tripometer. Drive until you get to zero miles to empty and refill. If you started with 360 miles to empty, see how many miles are on your tripometer. Do this a few times to experiment.
