Swapping my engine air filter back to OEM (Toyota P/N 17801-0P100 ) didn't resolve the sound.
    :monocle:

Well, I'm a man of science, anything's possible, so I'll swap the ATF in the powersteering back to the OEM Toyota stuff. After that I'm afraid I'm out of ideas.

How many miles do you have on the power steering fluid? I have an appt tomorrow for my 2020 sequoia with only 20k miles so hopefully it makes the sound.

My truck does this with every start in the winter. I have not taken my truck to the dealer for this yet. I did capture a video and it sounds identical. From all the threads I’ve found on this I don’t see any resolution which is why I’m not jumping to bring it in.

Mine has been making a whining noise for about a month now. Started out of nowhere and it is most noticeable right when I start it and then less once it’s warmed up but it’s always there when starting to accelerate from a stop. It follows engine speed and rpm’s while shifting, not vehicle speed. My first check was power steering fluid level as my old 4runner had a power steering fluid leak and the sound is almost identical to that of the power steering pump when low on fluid. No leaks and fluid level is normal on the Tundra. It sounds like the general area of alternator, water pump or power steering pump though. Anyone else find a fix for this yet?

Subbed. Mine makes the exact same noise, but only when the truck has been sitting out in the cold.

Surprisingly so many here waiting for a solution yet nothing, Isnt it possible to spray wd40 or something liberally at the fan bearing, may give some answer unless the oil doesnt penetrate (if sealed)..

    My spit balls would involve:

    Alternator
    Compressor
    Serpentine belt & pulleys

Sounds like a wind-up flashlight or turbine; which is why I think alternator.
My sister has an 07 liberty and the failing compressor sounds similar.
Almost sounds like the belt is skipping or a pulley siezes up for a second.

Idk, sounds like you all have checked a lot of other options off the box.

I’m new to the group but have been reading on these threads for over 5 years. I sold my 16 trd pro 2 years ago and bought one recently that has had the same noise mentioned above.

Mine sounds different under the hood as I’m assuming belt tensioner however the internal wine sounds the same. I am assuming fuel pump but the wine comes from rear of truck and I can hear more noticeably with rear window down, only when accelerating.

tensioners are known in the Toyota world for tundras to go as well as the fans and water pumps around 60k. I will update with what we find later but hope this helps.

New tundra is a 2016 trd pro white with 49256 miles.

I wouldn't spray WD-40 or any penetrating oil on anything that has a bearing, spins or has grease. Unless you have it apart on the bench and you're cleaning it. It's a solvent/penetrant, not a lubricant (yeah yeah, I know, it's advertised as,....yada yada).
Sure, it helps to quiet squeaky hinges, etc,....until it evaporates. Anyway, penetrating oils are solvents and will dissolve the grease in bearings. Don't spray it on moving parts that have bearings/grease.
Use it to get rusted nuts off of rusted bolts. Or, as a solvent/degreaser.

Is the wife in the passenger seat, first thing I’d check?

My wife and I used to wake up at the same time for work. She's wide awake as soon as she opens her eyes and 100mph. I'm more of a slow, coming out of a coma, I want everyone dead, kinda morning person.
She would try talking to me as I did the zombie walk to the coffee pot and it sounded like R2-D2 on crack to me.
She moved to a later schedule and I moved to an earlier one. I leave an hour before she even gets up now.
    We're still married.
I did think about spraying her with WD-40 a few times. But I don't think it would've made the squeaking go away.

    Same.

I tell people to not expect much from me until noon, and to be safe, make it 1 o'clock.

The wind sound I had ended up being a belt tensioner and rear diff. Bought used so previous owner blew up rear diff.

from what I had read, it could be water pump, fan, or tensioner if up front.

The '05 DC 4.7 I've owner for a couple weeks has had that sound since I got it. Only seems to have gotten slightly worse or I'm just noticing it more. Really bothers me as no other car has ever made such a loud and noticeable whirring sound under the hood, I almost thought it was a cracked manifold or exhaust leak but I'm not sure sure it's that anymore.
