It’s the only oil that’s been used in my truck and I just want to know if it’s great for longevity and want to know what you all use.

Whatever this forum told me to do
changing oil @ 5k is great for longevity.

    any Synth oil.

Toyota oil is just as good as the rest.

are you buying the toyota oil and putting it in?

because Toyota dealers don't use toyota oil.

Have to agree with @nobodyintexas that changing oil on a regular basis, 5k/6k is the key for longevity, or as I do, before and after a long trip, which is usually over 3K and I am driving it hard during that time.
Now, whereas the argument for 0W-20 or any other oil, please check the forum and conform to your location as it is not listed in your bio, but for me, I went 5W-30 cause we are in hell and 0W-20 to me was a tad too thin.

I would bet that a person could use the cheapest synthetic oil they could find and as long as it was changed regularly the truck would last a lifetime without an issue. I like to help the odds a bit and use Kirkland brand synthetic in 5W-30.

Hehe..... Last time Costco had those big jugs on sales, I think I hurled 6 boxes home?
I have a friend also uses 5W-30 on his Taco and 7 other cars, I will also be switch Mrs. Pilot to 5W-30 once I use up my 0W-20 stock, which I think I just did but need to check there's not another bottle lying around that crap in the garage.

The dealer in my area uses it. If I ever go anywhere else I order the oil and oem filter myself

Specifically it’s Mobil Super Synthetic with a custom additive pack (though that could have changed at any time if Toyota wanted to update the formula)

Ok, I will play, generally i don't care about oil threads as I use mobil 1 in my truck and kendall or valvoline in my camry. This is coming from my uncle who was an master mechanic on fords for 27 years. If there was ever a company that needed mechanics, that would be FORD !!!!! They all break, but FORD kept my uncle gainfully employed.

Toyota's oil is fine. I mean it's just Mobil 1 with a few additives. Please don't think these additives are some special super Toyota secret cause they are not. My only concern is when you say that TGMO is the only oil ever used in your truck I assume your stating you have done all your own oil changes and purchased the oil form a dealer. If you are saying that the reason TGMO is in your truck is because only the dealer has changed your oil then I am sorry to break the news to you that NO Toyota dealer on the planet is using Toyota branded oil. They put in whatever cheap 55 gallon drum of synthetic they can get their hands on that meets the absolute minimal criteria.

Should I use 5w20 year round? I just read how good Mobil 1 advanced full synthetic 5w20 is. I feel like my truck would be quieter if I use the 5 weight oil. It always sounds like a diesel when I first start it up in the morning with 0w20.

Where are you located (in the country)? I'd say if you spend any amount of time where there is snow on the ground, 0W-20 would be better for those months, then swap it in the spring/summer for the 5W-20, to improve the Toyota tick. (Some in the warmer climates have run 5W-30 here without issue - with only a handful claiming 5W-30 completely eliminating the tick noise).

Yes, but then it's the add packs they put in.

I'm running HPL 5W20 No VII and so far the truck is loving it. Possibly experimenting with extending the OCI as they have been able to get over 15k miles on the same oil. TBN's come back good with just a filter swap at 5k.

Depends on which product you decide on, but if you get comfortable at extending out your OCI, even to 10k miles, it brings it back in line with the off the shelf oils, IMO. Seeing how they do things and what they use, I'm confident that I could go 10k or 15k on the oil with doing filter changes at 5k intervals.

Seeing what people spend money on, I’m happy to “overspend” on engine oil. Just bought four gallons of HPL’s premium plus 5w30 PCMO.

I ran some Penz Ultra Plat 5w-30 last change.

I got the same results from Blackstone as my Kirkland 5w-30...except Kirkland lacked Moly.

so you still push a decent TBN after 10k miles? 15k miles?

the best oil is clean oil (and filter) changed at 5k miles or 6 months.

    This.

I'd much rather spend the extra $ on 5k changes.

Kirklands is my go to. still has strong TBN after 5k. even with an 8psi blower.

    to each his own.

Project farm tested the kirkland oil and it was pretty dang close to mobil 1 and its much cheaper. I have a bunch of mobil 1 from the last time costco had a sale but when i run out, I will most likely go with the kirkland. I usually go 6 months because i dont drive a whole lot, I think this last oil change i did at 6 months, i only did like 3700 miles but the oil definitely needed to be changed. I dont burn a single drop of oil either.

I can't say too much, but I've seen the TBN's come back well above with that many miles where the standard is at for most new oils.

I haven’t run it yet. I’m only 2,000 into my most recent 5w30 Valvoline EP. I plan to go 5k-6k OCIs even with the HPL. I want to get 500,000+ miles from my truck since Toyota will never make one like it again.
