Floor Shifter conversion? Is it possible?

I purchased a 2008 Tundra with a column shifter and I regret it. I wish I got the floor shifter... I am going to do the center console conversion soon but want to know if anyone has converted the column to a floor shifter? I know it is possible. I would assume the wiring might be tricky and you might need a new steering column.

Probably way more money and trouble than it's worth but I'm sure it's possible.

Have not tried that but I really wish that they offered the column shifter in the higher trim levels. I would love a front "bench" seat. Sure I have less storage and it is not as sexy but what else do you loose? The others are doing it in their higher trim level trucks.

I am curious why you regret it. If you really want, you can ditch your middle front seat and just install the center console and use the shifter spot as an extra cup holder or something.

How good are you at automotive wiring?

I am sure it is possible with enough time and work. I swapped a full 2014+ dash into my 2007. If that can be done I’m sure this can also.

If this is somthing you really want to purse I will take a look at the wiring differences. I don’t think I have seen anyone actually do the entire thing yet.

Main reason why I'm not getting a 2022+. I LOVE my bench seat!! might only use that middle seat for a person sitting there a few times a year, but I'm enjoying it in other ways.

    Op any luck with this??
The reason I would like to get ride of the column shifter is to get the telescopic steering column.

I wish my truck had the column shifter. I’d much rather have the extra seat. There is a thread here where someone went pretty far down the rabbit hole, but as far as I know, there have been no completed conversions one way or another.

I've scoured this site for successful conversions going the other way (floor shift to column shift). It's an unbelievable amount of parts swapping and wiring. I think it gets into the immobilizer system if I recall. The that is where I tap out.

Your direction is the easy way if you can stand keeping the column shifter. There have been several guys on here that have swapped the middle seat for a console. They just use a blank plate or a 3d printed plug in the console shifter hole. One guy may it into a nice tray.

I will spend sometime looking at it tomorrow. I really don’t think it is a big difference wiring wise but I guess we will find out.

Yearly bump LOL. Still trying to convert floor to column shifter. I have everything for the swap except for the column shifter itself and the shift cable. Would you be able to check the wiring for me?

I took a look at the wiring diagrams and these are the major systems I see with denotions for column or floor shift. I didnt look specifically through each section but my assumtion is this will be a large undertaking wiring wise.

    Cruise Control <3UR-FE, 3UR-FBE>

Check the build link in my signature.
I've been through this topic with others on here, but I've lost track of where exactly it was discussed. Hell, it may have actually been some PM for all I can remember at this point. And I'm also pretty sure it was for the Gen 2.5 trucks. While there are a lot of similarities there are also a lot of differences between different "batches" of the Gen 2 and Gen 2.5 rigs, and I've seen the most differences in the early Gen 2's between the 2007 and the 2008 models.

It's not terrible, but it's far from plug-and-play. Things like shift lock solenoid (prevents key from being removed when in gear) are different. There are likely wiring connectors that are not present in the needed locations and will require routing new wires and terminating new connectors.

I would love to do this conversion, but it's more involved than I want get. I'd rather not mess with the immobilizer wiring and such.

I too would love to do this. I love the functionality of the 6th seat. The console wastes a lot of space as far as I’m concerned.
