I 100% agree. Way to many scam parts on scAmazon. Put good eyes on all those parts and put up pics.

Ugh, I assumed it was Rancho based on the boot. What shit.

Notice any obvious difference in the ride? I'm assuming it should be a little less harsh with those Ranchos off.

When I compressed the ranchos they we're pretty much stuck down and really difficult to pull up.
I'm sure these will make the suspension move much more freely and responsive

I think she is due for a couple new leaf packs soon

That slanged-out grease probably kept some of that rust at bay! Did you see if any grease still in there? A few threads on here about replacing CV axle boots. General consensus seems to be that our original CV axles are better/heavier than anything aftermarket, and thus if you are replacing more than just the boot, the remanned ones are the way to go.

While I'm waiting for the timing belt kit, I decided to do the suspension work.
The parts were so rusty and stuck together. It took my breaker bar, penetration spray, lots of grunts and cuss words to get these parts off. It was one heck of a fight, but I am victorious

Really dissatisfied with the condition of this part.
Left and right are both equally very rusted. The dust shields are completely gone.
    Is this a junkyard part?
    What is it called?
Is the 2wd part the same as the 4wd part just with a plug on the back?
Don't want to go back with this part, looking to replace somehow if possible. Thanks

You can still buy them from Toyota last I looked but they were around $400/side.

There is a guy making custom ones with new wheel bearings pressed in. Not sure what he charges. His name is Jim Smola.

I would not install those back on my truck either. You could try to pull some from a junkyard too. Maybe consider having new bearing pressed in.

Can I get these hubs from a late 90's 4runner? There's several at the u-pull junkyard in my town. Zero tundras.

The steering knuckle is probably not the same between the T4R and Tundra. One way to verify would be to pull the part number for your Tundra, and look at parts compatibility lists online to see if it's the same.

Note that 2WD trucks came with spindles, which won't work with your 4WD. Same part for 4WD is typically called the steering knuckle or just "knuckle". Donor would therefore need to be 4WD, since a knuckle doesn't exist on 2WD.

I tend to agree, these won't sandblast out and should be replaced. The steel is flaking off in droves, which is no bueno.

You may also want to try searching at www.car-part.com for a donor vehicle near you.

Thats an older Toyota pickup or Tacoma thing. The 2wd ones that were 5 lug instead of 6.

Iirc our first gens use the same knuckle assembly for 2wd and 4wd, just the 2wd has a cap to keep the wheel bearing clean.

Thats what I though is the 2wd has the same knuckle with a removeable cap on the inside...

The advertisement Mr. Bee listed for the steering knuckle says it's interchangeable with the 1996-2002 4runner also. I saw a couple 4runners at the junk yard I might go get them

Chiseled off the bolts, all the flaking rust off and then wire brushed. Going to paint and reuse for now. I'm over budget on this project.
For now just getting these knuckles get cleaned up and reboot the CV axle with torn boot. Next year I'll get new oem CV axles, knuckles, splash field, wheel bearing kit and new brakes

Oh this reminds me, I've been wanting to ask: what paint/primer/epoxy/whatever stuff do you folks -- especially interested in our Yankee driveway engineers' input here -- use for suspension components? I will be taking as many of mine as I can down to bare metal if possible and I'd like to paint/coat them when I'm done.

This is what I originally recommended a few pages back, they cleaned up better than I thought. I was skeptical when I saw all that flaking and was 2nd guessing that reco with your most recent pics.

If you have a simple tap & die set, be sure to clean out the holes after painting and before reinstall. You'll be thankful later. The same Rustoleum Satin you used on the bumper will lay look great on the knuckles.
