FS: 3 switch panel insert plate

beautiful … how do you not have the screw holes? Also I want to know your prep process because that finish looks OEM and I’d love mine to match that well!

This reminds me - I want to try printing this face down on a textured bed with support inside the switch openings. After doing that with the scosche charger adapter I did, the texture is really close to OEM.

 

So I got the insert from @abomb60 and he had an option with or without the top holes.

next, I can’t take credit for the painting as I have a friend that does paint/body work and he took care of it. He sanded it down a bit, applied a coat of primer and then a couples coats of a flat black to match. I can try and get the exact kind if you’d like.

 

yeah if you could get the color and any instructions your Buddy is willing to share I’d love it

Yep, a textured bed finish looks good without painting, if you set your Z Offset correctly you don't see the path lines either. What I do is just offset a plane from the cutouts up 1 layer, create a sketch from that plane and offset the walls in 1mm and extrude that form up to the top. Then flip the part on it's top for printing and after printing just pop those pieces off. I hope that makes sense.

 

Currently just the version with holes. There wasn't much demand for those without the top holes so I stopped making them.

So the paint was SEM color coat. A little bit of sanding prior to the primer coat to get rid of the lines from the printing.

 

Still the best mod money can buy.

Aside from having the rear window switch on the drivers door, this is the best use of a useless area.

 

Printing more this week. If anyone is interested in the version without top holes let me know and I'll make some of those as well.

 

Can you print up one with out top holes? My brother in law is going to install one.

 

Been printing a few of those today so I have a couple ready to ship without the top holes.

Late update. Had mine on a shelf for.. what seems like a year

 

Just curious, how are the ones without the top holes secured?

 

I used some self tapping screws to secure mine. There was also a little bit of an edge where I cut out the slot and I applied some glue as well.

 

There are holes in the bottom you can use to secure it in place instead of through the top.

 

Ah ok gotcha. I still haven’t gotten around to installing mine yet!

 

I need one! @abomb60 pm inbound! I just got my FRack harness delivered, and found this. So I ordered the window switch extender and a camera switch (I was going to go round, but this looks much better).

So, stupid question time. How are these installed? Do you have to cut out the existing plate, or does it come out somehow?

 

You have to do some cutting. The first post shows how much you need to chop out.
