I have 2 things going on ,,,2008 Tundra with 150k miles . 1st start cranked hard and starts right up . Go and run some errands and by the 3rd or 5th start i start hearing starter chatter at the end of the crank like battery is low . Brand new $400 battery . Stealership repaired positive cable at the battery and ran a $500 draw test and found no drain on system . Said alternator charging fine . Next morning starts just fine then same thing by 4th start . 2nd problem that happened every once in a while is now happening all the time ,,, started just fine in the morning and went to the store , come out of store and no crank and all lights come on dash . Everytime this happens i get it started trying several things . We left the truck there and wife picked me up and i call my tow-truck buddy ,, he meets me there 2 hours later and it starts right up but lights on dash stay on till next morning. Another time i did the immobilizer bypass trick by using the key in doorlock and turn it to open and hold for 30 seconds and it started again lights stay on dash till next day . Yesterday started fine went through carwash came home and left for an hour and wouldnt stsrt . Tried jumping ,nothing . Left alone for an hour and it fired right up , lights on dash stay on till this morning. Im beyond frustrated. Ghost in the mashine. Any ideas would be appreciated.

What lights are staying on. Please be specific.

I would be up for rechecking all grounds and power connections. Actually put a wrench to them. Loose cables cause stuff like this. Especially with regards to catching electronics in odd states when er have so many computers on board.

So i put my charger on last night because i am suspicious of the alternator . This morning it fired right up ,, drove it for 25 minutes. Came back out after an hour and no problem starting . Came back out after 30 minutes started fine . Turn it off let it rest for a minute and when i restarted it and i got the chattering from the starter like not enough power . Turned it off and then restarted just fine . Metered at 13.4 while running. One thing I noticed is when i first start and run down the road my guage is straight up dead center ,, then after been running a while the guage goes down a 1/4 inch . What does yalls guage read.

My alternator gauge does the same thing every morning. Looks like it puts out extra amps when it starts and then settles back to normal.

I had a similar issue. My would start fine for several days and then not start. No sounds from my starter though. Mine turned out to be a simple fix. Battery terminals were loose. Took them off and found hidden corrosion all between the posts and the terminals. I removed everything. Cleaned with CRC Battery terminal cleaner and then used CRC battery terminal protector. My problem was the corrosion was keeping my battery from charging.

Did you go with a new AGM battery? Saw a post about the alternator does not charge them enough. Might be that your alternator is not charging your battery enough. Need to buy a Mike Singer Voltage Boost Mod or do the fuse mod in a thread on this site.

The Singer Mod device plugs in between existing wiring and your alternator. There are two levels of higher output devices that he sells.
There is another company that makes a similar device. It is all in thread. I will look for it and post it here if I find it.

Sorry can't figure out how to post a thread. I searched "voltage booster"

A different fix for AGM charging
This thread shows how to use a GM diode and fuses to raise the charging level of the alternator.

The other option is an "HKB fuse"

This link is for a Tacoma but explains why AGM batteries need a higher charge and stock Toyota alternator put out.

Slim Jim i did get a $400 deep cycle AGM . I had my truck in at the stealership putting in a new compressor and had them go through all connections and did repair 6 inches of positive cable at the battery with a aftermarket connection. So connections look good but i was going to pull ground to chassis and clean under connection. I will look into this alternator booster because i think your right its acting like not getting enough charge.

I can tell you that my AGM battery seems to charge fine. I can also tell you that I have had this issue in my tundra from corroded battery terminals (they looked fine until I pulled them off and started scrubbing them a little bit)

I have also had this issue with a bad ground cable on a GMC truck that was rotting from the inside out on a brand new truck. I’m still bitter about that one.

Your pos clamp and battery are new but I'd still make sure the neg clamp is clean as well..
I had this issue on my 2005, new battery, battery tested, etc.
It would start fine and later do the starter click, click, click.
Ended up being a thin layer of corrosion on the battery clamps..
