So when I got my truck (2017, purchased in 2019), it was late summer and I was getting ready for some fishing trips and hunting season. I had a drawer that I had built in my old Land Cruiser. Didn't have enough time to build "drawers" so I built a cubby system to hold camping and recovery gear that permanently lives in my truck. I built it specifically to hold gear on the sides, be a platform on top, and if I slide that middle board to one side, my 150 qt cooler fits perfectly in the open section. I don't need to strap it down or anything. And I don't have to lift it as high when it's full.

I'm considering getting the bed Line-X'd. I'll be removing the shell, old drop in liner, etc. Now I'm thinking about getting a Decked. I know the cons, which is loss of vertical space, certainly with a shell like mine. My box has worked for me since 2019.

Anyone have any solid reasons for me to use the box as firewood and drop $1500 on a Decked?

Custom made solution that already fits you cooler? I see no reason to upgrade. If you carry a cooler often and are not keeping the topper a decked setup will force the cooler to sit above the edge of the bed. This is what stopped me from going decked. I carry a yeti and it's crucial it can fit in the back under a bed cover.

I’ll just put back the shell after, add some wood and make 2 drawers.
I use furniture slide tape for my drawers and it work great

Decked has them drawers, which will be an improvement over what you have. But if you don't need the drawers, put the $1500 into the stock market and watch it reduce in value to $1,000 very quickly. No seriously, why fix what ain't broke?

If it ain't broke, why spend $1,500 to fix it?

Gotta love the voice of reason. Thanks all for the input. I will be removing the drop in bed liner and getting Line X. Just gotta find some friends to help me remove the shell.
