has anyone had any issues doing this recall?

i was talking to someone who had to go back to the dealer 3 times! twice to get the sensors working correctly and once to get the bumper alignment right. he is still not sure about the sensors. he thinks they are "less sensitive" now ... whatever that means.
granted he went to a dealer i would never go back to. over the years i had taken my 2 Tacomas to the same dealer and had issues with them 2 or 3 times and never went back! not to go off subject but once they said they lubed the car (after i specifically asked them since they forgot to lube the time before) and they said they did and i looked under and they didn't lube and they said sorry we are out of lube bring it next time!!!! i said why on paper u say u lubed it? anyways i bought my own and lubed it myself from then on.

    back to original subject:
I am thinking about ignoring the recall. if i understand it correctly the bumper should never break unless it is damaged. Is that how you understand it? so if it is not damaged, it should never break even if i gain 30 lbs. lol is that correct?

the recall says something like this:
... in the event of an impact to the corner of the bumper, the resin brackets may become damaged but not to be noticed ... if a person steps on the corner of damaged bumper, a portion may break away, increasing the risk of injury...

Had mine done with no issues (no alignment issues or scratches) and it works fine. They did perform a calibration of the sensor operation. I rely on my dealer to do things right and have many years of great experience with them.

As I have followed this and read about it, all it takes is a minor bump to cause this issue and you may ever know it. I read about one person who had their truck in for the recall and the dealer determined his bumper support was already broken - there were no outward signs of an impact. Anyway, mine is done...

Just had mine done as well. They also did a sensor calibration. A good dealer will do it right.

Had mine done today and it just don't look right. Seems to protrude out more (doesn't hug the bed) and it doesn't follow the bed body lines. Need to see another bumper that's been worked. Let me know what you guys think....maybe I'm off base.

That's the complain I posted about. he says the alignment was off and he had to go back and today I talked to him again and he thinks that they never got the alignment correctly but it is close enough and he is tired of dealing with them ...

hard to tell maybe the bumper is always like that and we never pay attention until we get the car back and then we look for imperfections!
for you best is to compare it with a new cars on the lot ... or measure things and take pictures before you go in for the recall.

I took pictures before the recall was performed and compared the fitment to after the recall was performed. The proximity to the body is the same and the black plastic parts look better than before on mine. Most of all, side to side is even (body to bumper ends both sides) and fitment under tailgate is even side to side horizontally and is flush under tailgate on mine.

Go to a different dealer. I had mine done, and minus forgetting to connect the sensors the first time, once I got it back the second time everything as good and all is well. Everything works as it did before.

Just had mine done last week and noticed night before last that the alignment looked good on the passenger side, but the drivers side looked like Okie's 1st pic. I reschedule a re-do next week with my dealer. You know, it's where if you want anything done right these days, you have to do it yourself. I'll give them one attempt to make it right, then I'll fizz it.
