Has anyone had a 2014 tundra 5.7 L TRD 4wd or relative model just not start? My truck literally has 25k and always maintained on time by factory dealer and would not start the other day. I am pretty mechanically inclined, and the battery measured 12.6 volts, but still tried to jump it with another vehicle. The lights would not turn on or anything. Anyway, had it towed and the dealer said it was just the battery and anyone who had the slitest clue knows that the at least some electronics would work. Just wondering if there's a bigger issue and if anyone else has experienced anything similar?

I have the 2014 5.7L Crewmax with 26k miles on it. Same issue as yours. Battery was replaced by the dealer.

Man, I have a 14' with about 10k miles, stuff like this makes me wonder if I should replace the battery as a precaution....

Nop, gotta be 3 year 36,000. Try it anyways. Try one dealership if it doesn't work try the 2nd one or maybe the third one. Third time a charm.....

When my stock battery died, it died without any warning, not even a hint that it was going bad. I took the battery to Advance Auto and they tested it and said it was okay. I put in into my battery charger, and it would not even charge. I now have Interstate battery. My stock battery lasted less than 5 years (granted my driving pattern is hard on the battery).

Just because you read a voltage potential across the battery terminals that doesn't mean the battery isn't bad. It also doesn't mean it can supply the current it needs to. Modern vehicle have extensive electrical systems and the battery obviously wasn't holding the state of charge needed to run the electrical system. Even trying to jump with another vehicle, a bad battery can have a high internal resistance and your vehicle wont see the current it needs. Did a new battery fix the issue?

Yes, but that means you can't even jump this vehicle...agin, there was no sign of a degrading battery and the fact that the lights or any electronics wouldn't turn on seems very odd. And if that is because of the computers within the vehicle...toyota's reputation won't last...

It's under warranty as the truck only has 25k on it. I'm not concerned about paying for the battery as much as getting stranded somewhere on a road trip...what I'm gathering is with these "computers" you have to carry a spare battery or risk this crap! Absolutely rediculous

Mines not under warranty any more...it has 91k on it....that's why i ask. I've had my radio torn itself off then turn back on. No issues with my battery

I wouldn't say you need to carry a spare battery, but if you are going on a long trip and your battery isn't new I would have it checked by someone with an instrument to measure it's ability to accept a charge and supply a current. Normally with a "dead battery", assuming it's just at a low state of charge, you can still jump it. It's not the end of the world, you just had a bad battery. Assuming you had a 2014 battery in your 2014 truck it's not that hard to believe a new one is in order 3 or so years later.

And depending on where you live....it could need to be changed even more often. Higher heat drains the battery even quicker than "normal" conditions

It's not the end of the world, but the truck was in for scheduled maintenance less than two months ago and gave no indication of a "bad battery." I think it's funny that people find this acceptable...if you were stranded you might think differently as you can't even jump the stupid thing...

Again, there should be an indication or at least a factory recommendation of changing the battery every 20k miles...

I change out batteries in my wife's car-Honda Accord and my Tundra every 3 yrs. When they go they usually go without any notice. Getting stranded due to a dead battery -non issue. Last Tundra battery from dealer $119.00 -done.

This has happened to me on my wife's 2001 Trans Am, my 2004 GTO and 2014 Silverado. The guy at the battery store told me that the heat from these engines along with the Texas heat cause the plates to short and that is why there may be voltage but no cranking amps. I agree that in the past, I was able to jump start and still can in certain circumstances (battery drained due to parasitic electronics while vehicle sat for 6 weeks), but when the batteries on these cars failed, they just died - 2001 Trans Am got the wife to the store and when she came out it wouldn't start. Just pointing out this is not a Tundra only issue. It was recommended to me by Batteries Plus that I should change batteries every 3 - 4 years (living in Texas, not daily driven). They see a lot of them die like this.

Yep, too much electronics in the cars nowadays. I'm sticking to my Schwinn on road trips from now on.
