New to the forum. I bought a stock 4WD 5.7l 2020 SR5 a few weeks ago (last vehicle was a 2WD 2007 Sport Edition 4Runner w/ v8) and have been lurking the posts on here ever since, trying to better understand lighting.... I've self installed lift kits, bumpers, HIDs, done most basic maintenance etc. so I'm ok turning wrenches, but I know nothing about aftermarket lighting and how it's wired.

I'm looking at a bull bar with a 90w light strip for a reasonable price ($300) on a reputable modded parts website. I'd share the name but I know some forums don't like people posting links so pm me if you'd like to know which one. Or if it's ok you guys let me know and I can post the exact product.

Now, I'm hoping someone here can help me understand.... if I just plan on getting a single 90w light bar, do I need a SPOD switch kit or anything like that? I'm thinking to tie this directly into my battery then if I decide to get more lights I can upgrade the wiring setup at that time.

You can totally share links on here! In fact it may help your case for folks to see the product in question.

But yes, you can wire straight to the battery. Pretty much all light bars will come with a harness that includes a fuse and switch inline so all you need is power and ground.

Thanks man, appreciate the help. Nice build btw - I'm in North Texas too and hope to see it at a meetup sometime.

For anyone interested I'm thinking about picking up one of these two pieces:

    https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/rough...-led-light-bar-black-b-t4071/_/R-DHTP-B-T4071

    https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/rough...4-led-round-lights-black-75005/_/R-DHTP-75005

The bull bar by itself is $190, so that means that bar add on is an extra $110 and the 4 round lights are an extra $180.

I'd only be using the lights <10 days out of the year so I'm not too concerned with getting a top of the line model.

Has anyone seen these in person / know anything about the build quality? Which one do you think would project more light?

    Welcome from TX!

As far as lighting goes, many of the regulars here will throw Baja or Diode Dynamics as the only two options you should consider. If you look at their pricing, you'll probably crap your pants, but they're extremely reliable and the quality is bar none. I can tell you for a fact that RC lighting is sub par if you look at one factor alone: condensation. Nearly every RC light pod I've owned got condensation in it - usually by the end of the 1st year, but I have had a couple last 2-3 years.

Another thing you'll see a lot of in here is buy once, cry once.

The $50 Amazon bars have lasted years for me. I promise the light output looks good, but is half as much as a quality bar from DD or Rigid. If it’s mostly for looks and partly for extra light, the Nilights and the like on Amazon can work just fine on a budget. You’ll never regret buying quality though.

If you do the four individual lights, you could probably have a wider “throw” compared to the single bar by turning the two outside lights away from the center. Sorta like ditch lights.

One bar to consider is Phillips brand on Amazon. They are really nice for the price.

Or Osram Sylvania. Front Runner sells their their products at a rediculous markup. You can buy from Sylvania direct at a half the price.

Just realized Osram and Phillips are one.
