Will be doing my first oil change this weekend. About 2200 miles on it.... Will be using Costco oil and Toyota filter..... Just old school and don't want the original oil in for 10K.

Don’t forget tubing for the oil filter drip tray.

you stick it on the end of the drip tray/funnel and divert the oil away from the crossmember and directly into a container.

There's a spout right under the oil filter. Put this tube on the spout before pulling off the filter. It will help cleanly drain the oil and divert it into your oil pan.

Start at the 5:15 mark. Lower the air dam and remove the skid "carpet" to make it a lot easier to access.

Nice, thanks for that tip! I guess you just rest the filter on the catch and it drains out there or is it just for the drip when you unscrew? Haven't done mine yet but this will come in handy! Guess the TRD skid has to come completely off too, no access to the filter otherwise. I bought the Toyota oil filter, dang that thing looks tiny!

At least they went back to a spin on oil filter rather than the cartridge filter on the previous 3UR 5.7 and 1UR 4.6

When you unscrew the oil filter, a decent bit of oil will spill out. It's not just a couple of drops.

I gotta say.....this forum has the craziest combination of posts for one forum ;)

Its great, just funny, on one end we are trying to hold together our 23 year old trucks with duct tape and spit....and on the other people are getting their first oil changes.

Yes especially at that angle! I was just curious if y’all are draining the filter there or quickly bringing it out and vertical. I will figure it out on my first change I suppose, nice they added the catch drain though.

Yes the skid plate has to come off. TRD has the metal one, otherwise its a fabric one. Once I saw the fabric one I went out and bought an aftermarket one that has a trap door to get to the filter without taking everything off. Works well.

If you do your own oil changes, a fomuto valve will help too. That replaces the drain plug on the oil pan. Get oil nice and warm the easily drain it. Less mess.

Yeah, these things are crazy small. My Triumph motorcycle has bigger, and the filters for our 20 HP riding mowers look almost identical to the Tundra's. Have to be careful not to mix them up. The ones that say Toyota are for the Tundra so if I have had my coffee I'll get it right. ;-)
