What are you guys using for truck stored impact wrenches? I know that there are some that are powered from the truck itself.

Whenever I’m leaving town I throw my Rigid li-ion rechargeable in the truck. Those batteries will store a long time with a good amount of battery - I’d still carry a breaker bar though as the impact couldn’t budge one of my front sway bar bolts even fully charged.

Negs. I use hand tools & dont scuff my shit. And i've been doing it forever, so i'm keen to size & clearance of the tools i'll need. Or i'm lazy and dont wanna learn how to be 'fast'. Better to be 'good'.

but hell yea, if i was given one, i'd mount a red dot on the side so i could pitcrew with precision.

But taking time & being thorough is an expierience. Each project faces the distractions and quests of any decent epoch, and the franchise grows as subsequent sequels and prequals evolve. You learn personal things about the previous mechanic. And factory practices.

i think the impact will snap bolts that need to be replaced, so i cant talk shit. Its the right thing to do.

I keep my Milwaukee M18 mid torque in a plastic 30cal case from harbor freight. Holds the gun, battery, sockets and torque stick perfectly. Reflective vest in truck as well. With the way ppl drive on these CA highways, you don’t want to be goofing out there for too long

Have a few different impact wrenches, but this one lives in the truck full time. Settled on it specifically because of the 2 bolts that attach the spindle at the lower ball joint. When installed with loctite and torqued correctly they are difficult to remove with a breaker bar without a torch to heat it up. This breaks them loose without needing a torch for trail repairs, and it fits between the ground and bolts with tire removed. Really don’t use it for tightening purposes other than running bolts/nuts down before torquing by hand. Last trail flat was 10 minutes stop to go, helps with that also.

Been driving all kinds of trucks for many decades doing all kinds of stuff. Never needed an impact wrench on the side of the road one time. As mentioned above, I also carry a bright and reflective safety vest and rain suit though. If it's really bad, call a tow truck and get it where you can be safe and have a full selection of tools, supplies, and good working conditions such as lighting and cold brew.

Thanks for the inputs so far. Just trying to be prepared.....I didn't have a jack in the truck that was big enough for a tire change until I bought the Badlands a couple of weeks ago. The day I ordered the mount I picked up about a 1 inch screw. Luckily it didn't go all the way through to cause a leak.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
How you like the jack so far? I’ve seen a few others on here with the it. Definitely something I’m eyeballing.

FWIW and to your original question, I keep a tire iron and a 4’ (1”) iron pipe for leverage.
I also bought a 3/4” torque wrench from Harbor Freight…although it’s not in the truck currently.
I keep them behind the back seats. (Did the rear seat fold-down mod of course so they’re easily accessible).

While on this subject, keep in mind that some extended thread lug nuts have a thin wall type of design for the first few threads. Quite often someone attempts to remove them with an impact wrench and the ends break off inside the recess of the wheel leaving the wheel stuck on. Not good and even worse if it happens while out and about. Also, don't use any impact on wheel locks.

It's pretty nice...solid as hell to. You will get a nice little workout lifting it in and out of the mount.

I always have a breaker bar and torque wrench when towing, but I also carry the Harbor Freight Bauer brand for all of my power tool needs. Cheap enough that I'm not pissed if they get lost, stolen or damaged, but better than doing everything by hand.

Expectation mgmt, they are a good value, but not of the same quality as Dewalt or other name brands.

I know some people look down on Ryobi stuff. But I have one in my truck, works great. I also have Milwaukee that I keep at home.

Dewalt 20V XR 1/2” hog ring impact stays with me in a backpack with a socket set and some recovery stuff. Makes rotating tires extremely easy, though out on the road I’ve only ever used it to help other people out. It gets most of its use if I’m working with my carpenters.

Tool brands are just like truck brands, pick one and scoff at everyone else different. Though I would just get the same brand as any other cordless tools you may already have so that you only have to deal with one battery and charger type.

When I go on trips, the Ridgid 1/2" impact goes with.

I use air tools when we go out on long trips. When I go out local I just bring my breaker bar and a cheater bar. In my Land Cruiser days the air tools were almost required because if you had to pull a birf out on the trail, an air hammer drill and an impact is your friend.

In Moab one year a friend broke a front axle on her FJ40 coming across the crack on Golden Spike. She pulled off to the side and 3 of us equipped with the tools had her back on the trail in 48 minutes. She had 2 spare axles, a new and a used birf and a knuckle. We needed a part we were looking for and she said she had one. She pulled out a spreadsheet that told her where she kept it in her rig. She is a scientist ‍

Back in the day I actually built bumpers out 7 3/4" pipe and they served as compressed air tanks to inflate flats or run air tools on jobs. Brings back the memory of being bitten by a horsefly on my back shoulder while fabbing one. Instinct is to immediately reach back and grab whatever is biting. So, here I was burning a rod and immediately reached back glowing rod and all, burnt the old back really nice. Hot ass summer weather and welding just don't mix!

Harbor freight earthquake electric. It won’t die and when it does I’ll go Hercules. Harbor freights price and warranty is awesome and all this stuff is only made in x amount of factories let’s be real.
