I've had a Pace Edwards bed cover on my 2017 since new. It is about done.... Doesn't retract fully anymore, drains clog CONSANTLY and I'm about over it.

I'm thinking of getting a Color Matched Topper, or that RSI Smart Cap, but the wife isn't in favor, and is 2X the cost.

I like the concept of a retractable, but the permanent loss of bedspace and constant clogging of drains makes me think about a backflip or something similar that I can easily take off if needed.

Before I start 3 months of research and reading, figured I'd see what you all are using and liking/disliking these days.

Head unit, sub's , components, front / back camera's, too many lights to mention, dual battery, winch / bumper, TRS projector headlights, roof nest hard-shell, integrated backup spot lights, vault, all aluminum radiator / water pump, tailgate storage, plenty of dents and scratches
You won't regret a soft-topper! Well unless you don't like canopies... convertible canopy has been amazing to me

I was able to get a used tri fold vinyl cover from a friend when I got my truck in December. I like that it’s light for gas mileage and removal.. I wouldn’t mind a solid tri fold at some point tho..

I’ve have three different hard fold covers. None will be 100% waterproof. But I still prefer it to having a soft vinyl cover.

If I did not have the limo rear window, I would have gone with another cap like I had on my DC.

If I had it to do over….guess I could do it over….I would go Diamondback. My trifold backflip has had 3 warranty claims. Good that they stand by it. Sucks I gotta be inconvenienced by it.

Bakflip MX4 w/Elevate rails & racks, hasn't been on long but very happy with the set-up so far.

Full bedrug going in this week and I'm done... well, except for running power to the bed, aaaand...

Saw a new Tundra this weekend with a hard folding cover. Looked OEM, what is Toyota using?

I put an Armor Flex on my '21 Pro, and it's been great. None of them 100% waterproof, but this one does a decent job, and the bedliner finish of the Armor Flex has been durable and looks good (IMO). Functionality of the Armor Flex hardware, joints, prop points, etc. have all worked as I would have expected. I've had it for almost a year and a half now.

Not sure what they're using, but I think there's a recall because some of them are flying off. :eek2::burnrubber:

I ended up going with a Lomax with the diamond plating.

Hope to get it on in the next week or two pics to follow

Installed the Lomax today 30 minutes and good to go. Super easy. Looks great and well made, but I can't see the rubber joints lasting 6 years.... Oy veh.

Will see how it works out. I liked the flexibility of the Pace Edwards roller, but this is a 2/3 secure open or full remove. IMG_20230704_094935093.jpg IMG_20230704_161923004_HDR.jpg

image.jpg image.jpgI have a soft tri fold that came with the truck when I bought it. Don’t take long to remove if you want. I’d like to get a cap but wife said no because it’ll look like an old man’s truck.

Tell your wife that hurts... that really hurts. :(

If you still want the cap you can also tell her that the reason I decided NOT to get the cap on the new truck is because I AM an old man now, and it gets harder and harder to crawl around in the back with the shell on.

Ergo, toppers are a young man's game. *BOOM!* Your welcome.

LOL, SWMBO (she who mus be obeyed) strikes again...:D My wife didn't say no, but she said she thought it would ruin the look like a truck. I have long nursed her interest in my motorcycle and auto passion, and she actually takes pictures of TRD PROs and Bullitt Mustangs whenever she sees one, so anything to keep her engaged.......... LOL.

I still may go to a Cap, we will see. I really like the RSI (?) Smart Cap. I haven't really opened the LOMAX yet, but I like the look and can be easily removed. Eventually I will retire (Feb 2025) and we will upgrade to a larger camper and start travelling. Depending on the setup and load, I may just go that way for ease of mounting Kayaks, etc.

HA! SWMBO, I like that!

Yeah, if she's that much on board with your passions, you probably shouldn't go messin' with that!!

FWIW, I've always run toppers on my previous trucks and fully intended to do so on this one too, but changed my mind after I got it.

I'm really liking the tonneau and racks... having the open bed if I want it. I can jump up there easily to change in/out of my wetsuit off the ground, or I need to haul something taller than a shell opening, while still having some security to lock up surfboards, camping gear, etc.
I usually take 2 or 3 boards to the beach with me, so lockable storage was really my main reason for always having the shell. Used to truck camp occasionally but since getting a travel trailer that's not needed anymore.

    Let's see the Bullitt!!

IMG_2817.jpg For now the tri fold cover will do. We can get all our camping gear in the back with it able to close and some gear on the back seat. But a cap is in the future. After all, I told her I am an old man
