For my wants/needs, the Bakflip is the best option I can see. Has anyone found a place that will take an order, or has the ability to order these yet in Canada? I keep getting goose eggs on the standard accessory websites ( autoeq, Action auto, Parts Engine etc) I expect they are/will be back ordered, but I cant even put an order in anywhere it seems.

Without making a bunch of phone calls around the province to try and speak to a human over and over again, I figured I would see if anyone here has had success.

Why BAKflip vs the toyota soft trifold? Just asking in case I opt for it, and it turns out to be some kind of big mistake.

for me it was price point, the bakflip was cheaper and essentially the same cover. I didn't want a soft fold, only a hard folding one.

Ever consider the Undercover Armorflex with Line-X top surface? It's a bit more but I was able to get a quote from my local Line-X dealer for $1500 plus taxes installed. I think I would prefer a tri-fold that does not lean up against the cab but that's just me.

A year ago there weren't many out there yet as the truck was so new, and since the OEM & backflip are basically the same, it came to market in time for me. since then many others have and if shopping today i would have more choices and consider other options. I'm not really in the habit of 'flipping' stuff when newer stuff comes out, so its what I have and will keep. The leaning against the cab is not a real issue for me, it is rarely open unless loading/unloading gear or shorter trips. It comes off easy enough if I need it to. The foam blocks that rest against the cab seem decent enough to not cause damage.

As for what Stegosaurus is looking for in a cover, it will depend on his needs. I just replied to specific question. More options now is a better market for sure!

You had an entirely different circumstance from me then I guess. I’m looking at ~850 CAD for the Toyota “soft topped” trifold (installed), and 1350-1800 CAD (part only) for BAKflip Fibermax and similar.

Anybody have any major criticisms of the Toyota one? It seems like a no brainer at this point... unless it’s actually crap! Because then I would pay double and install BAKflip myself! :D

Ah, yes the soft top OEM is not the same as the hard top OEM (about 1800 for the hardtop was my comparator) or the Bak series folding tops which were several hundred cheaper. IF I'm not mistaken the OEM soft topped is just a vinyl cover with no solid core protection, is not comparable to the hard top folding OEM or other brands hard top folding. different animals. You need to compare apples to apples for a true assessment.

Again, personal needs & uses come in to play. I wanted a solid folding tonneau for the little extra protection, so the soft topped oem was never on my list. It all depends on how you intend to use your truck bed, and how the tonneau works in relation to that.

Primary concern with the non-hardtop ones being that someone could just slash and steal from it, I assume?

So far I’m happy with our Bison soft rollup for $289 cash, including installation and a 2 year warranty. Fingers crossed!

I don't believe Bison makes their covers whether they are soft or hard top. They rebrand stuff coming from China. Great price point though, but would like to hear reviews after 5 years of ownership in Canadian weather. Wish you best of luck on that.

Thanks bud. We shall see. While I was having mine installed a woman came in to have one installed on her new truck. She said she’d had one on her old truck for several years, and year round, without issue. Here’s hoping I’m as lucky as she is.
