Hey all, posted about getting AT Wildpeaks and got them from Discount Tire the other day, came super quick too, I appreciate all the recommendations and feedback and I will let you know how they wear .
Another thing I want , but don’t need, but have always wanted is a CB radio. I live in the Northeast but live for road trips down south and out west .
Do a good amount of people have them ? Use them? Recommend any ?
Any and all feedback appreciated, just stopped drinking , 19 days sober and feeling great , so all the money for that is to keep my Jolene running good , looking good and fun for me!
    Thanks so much!

Can't comment on the CB radio idea.

But it's my understanding that a lot of truckers and maybe even non-truckers are moving to GMRS. It's a test free license and being higher frequency than CB and also FM instead of AM, has much better audio quality and range. I forget the channel used on the highway, might be 22.... google that to be sure and find out how common it really is. Just a thought

    Congratulations on your sobriety...

Consider the Amateur Radio Service (Ham Radio). Find a local Licensed Ham Radio Operator and I am sure they will indoctrinate you through the process. The licensing process is nowhere as intense as it used to be. Your options for communications are broader than other services.

Since I go south for the winter while hurricanes are still a thing I like to be prepared. A Baofeng UV-5R or similar will receive and xmit both HAM (legally, if you are licensed) and GMSR illegally regardless of license. It's not fully approved for the latter.

During our last trip south we compared the radio traffic between the CB and GMRS and found much more useful information about traffic etc. on the GMRS. As far as being legal to transmit, that the last of my worries if trying to evacuate back north with my tail between my legs and I need assistance.

I have noticed I no longer see the signs the the State Patrol monitors CB ch 9 so that leads me to believe a cell phone has probably taken its place for emergency.

I appreciate all your replies thank you very much . You could really get a summons for having or using these transmitters?

According to most sources it's very unlikely the FCC will hunt you down for talking on a GRMS radio without a license. Do something stupid like jam HAM frequencies and you stand a much better chance of getting a sternly worded letter telling you to stop.

Since I'm not one to chit chat on the radio I'll most likely never transmit on mine. Like stated before, if I'm in need if gasoline to avoid a hurricane I'll be asking on the radio. These little, cheap radios are an entrance to a very deep rabbit hole if you desire.
