    Trying not to mod it
    Good evening, Reader.

    Let me preface this post with a slight explanation; I'm in the middle of my 7th 12 hour night shift and my mind is roaming.

    In my mental journeys I get to all kinds of places. Sometimes it's daydreams, aspirations, or a trip down memory lane.
    Frequently though, it's a foray into darker topics, regrets, and pain.

    This moment I'm wandering down the path of mortality. A normal thing for those of us who are aware of our own, I'm sure.
    Along this path I find questions. Things to wonder. Thoughts to ponder.

    I've known those who've died. Everyone will or has.
    Some known well, others not. Death came at various ages and causes all.
    Young, old, natural and self-imposed.

    Here I find those questions. Things to wonder. Thoughts to ponder.

    What do they wish had been accomplished? What business is left undone? Who will miss them, and will that longing linger?
    Do those left behind that mattered know it, or did that love leave a whisper?

    The problems of the dead are theirs alone, true, but also will one day be each our own.

    I'm not poetic or musical, but that was a fun bit of freeform. It really does express how I got to the thought process that actually struck me, though. What if I were to die unexpectedly? I have life insurance and low enough debt that there'd be no financial burden left. My family and my friends know I love them. those are the big things, but I don't actually have a will for all the little things.:anonymous: On top of that, I don't have anything set up to let you guys know either. If I croak tomorrow I'll just be silent forever on here.:tumbleweed:;

    Now, I tend to be a bit on the grim side when it comes to people and relationships and doubly so on the internet. Not a lot of trust left in me, and plenty of skepticism regarding what people actually care about. Please, don't bother with the "I'd miss you, everyone is special" warm fuzzies. Not fishing for anything like that.

    None of that is the point, rather what I want to convey here is that I'm glad to have had the opportunity to interact with this community and so many of it's members. It's been a pleasure to "meet" so many helpful, kind, and different people! It's like having a second dysfunctional family and I enjoy my time here. Mostly.

    I love you guys. No homo... or hetero... or furry or whatever else you weirdos are into! :p

    This is why they want to implant chips in our brains - so our social media accounts can be updated with news of our passing then deleted.

    Note: this is just a joke and is not intended to be political in any way.

    What's the saying? "Only whores and thieves are up at this hour" or something to that effect. Well, I'm not getting laid but I am getting paid. Hardly what I would consider theft, though. Night shifts...

    I'm up feeding babies. I'd prefer they turn out to be thieves rather than whores but I guess that's up to them...

    I too am extremely grateful for the sister forums (admittedly more grateful for this one.) They quickly became far more than just a place to learn and talk about trucks. I've also thought about if I had an untimely passing and in the event that happened, I told my family to post up on here and Tacomaworld so it would be known.

    You're the one who gave me limited options to work with. Maybe by "thieves" we can mean that they'll steal a couple girls' hearts.

    Since both of you guys are diddling in the darkness of the brain, I thought I'd be supportive by telling you both that I'd be happy to bear the burden of giving both (or either) of your Tacos a nice comfy home to reside at in your absence(s). Just know it (they) will be well cared for and appropriately used throughout the duration of their remaining life spans :D

    I thought I was the only one prone to prose/poetry when sh** goes sideways.

    I wrote this a few years back, when my Mom (dad's 3rd wife) decided to go off the rails for a while. 1st wife was sort of a cipher, no maternal instinct at all; and 2nd wife beat the @#%%$ out of me, locked me up for hours, etc., so it *HURT* when my Mom went off the rails. (She's since straightened things out and apologized...but I'd be a liar if I said it didn't still hurt.) (Also....we're believers, thus the references in the third paragraph. Not at all trying to proselytize.)

    (And yes, friendships and the like with people on this site has definitely improved my life and has helped me get through some tough times. I'm glad to know y'all. :) )

    *******************

    "Who I Am Hates What You Are"

    The little boy inside of me remembers who you used to be.
    I tried so hard to earn a love from one who had no love to share.
    A broken trust rebuilt in time, with love I'd always hoped to find;
    As who you were erased the tears, and showed me that someone would care.

    The man I am now watches as you drown the good inside yourself;
    You try to kill the pain that you've created with synthetic bliss.
    I shed a tear and watch as you destroy the trust you once rebuilt;
    I watch those lips of liquid love seduce you with a deadly kiss.

    The One who died to save your soul, whose hands were nailed to a cross,
    Still reaches out to hold you close, to try to take the pain from you.
    But who you have become forsakes the One who died for Love itself;
    And we are left to try to find the wife and mother we once knew.

    I trust in He whom you forsake, for He will never forsake you.
    But trust in you is shattered, and our hearts now bear a painful scar.
    As long as I have life in me I'll struggle to remember you;
    I'll always love the one you were, but who I am hates who you are.

    Oh, believe me, "Damn" was how I felt at the time. Believe it or not I wrote that in like a freakin' half hour. I was @ my wit's end @ the time and had to either write, or smash something. LOL

    That is very impressive Matt. I don't have a poetic bone in my body, though I have learned to write pretty well in general.

    And yes, I would have been more likely to smash something.

    This is a great reminder and exemplifier of the fact that you never know what someone you encounter is going through in their life, especially if it's not an immediate family member or close friend (and sometimes you still don't know)...

    I am somewhat hypocritical in this sense, because I do find myself passing judgement when I see people doing stupid shit or behaving in a way that is just flat asinine. But, the fact is, when are generally encountering someone, we are experiencing a mere microcosm of their life and being and when their actions or behavior appears to be sideways for the circumstances, we are quick judge and draw a conclusion. However, the fact is that what we are seeing or experiencing w/that person may not be a true or accurate depiction of who they really are, and we should afford them the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

    I do my best to follow my own advice. However, I routinely fall short :(...

    Let's not drag people that made money off their poems into this. It'll make us amateurs feel too self conscious to share! :p

    I couldn't agree more (about being quick to draw conclusions, not about you falling short LOL). It's super easy to rush to judgment, to look at that one thing and immediately proclaim someone a complete idiot or bonehead, etc. Later on (and very rarely, right then) I think "You know...I have no clue what led up to that, what they're dealing with, etc."

    IIRC I was @ the in-laws at the time, and all they had around was a bunch of fine china...and I like their daughter (heh) so I had to find some other way. :rofl:

    My dark thoughts never lead anywhere or to anything.
    If they did, I'd be on the news. And probably in a book, a movie and a documentary or 2.
