Recently I was riding in a 2021 Taco and was amazed at the tailgate hinges. On my truck the tailgate just slams down if you let it, but the Taco has some sort of slow opening hinges. Just wondering if there is anything similar for the Tundra? I am not interested in the shock absorber looking thing that I have seen elsewhere.

NickB_01TRD You don't need less cars, just more driveway.

That's what the newer tacomas and tundras have. It's concealed behind one of the taillights.

Torsion bar helps going up and down.

It's actually a little too strong initially, my tailgate sat where it wouldn't full extend the cables by about an inch. I pulled it off and gave it a small little bend off angle to let the tailgate actually fully drop.

    Before bend:

It's nice to be able to open and close with just a finger or two of pressure.

FYI there is no off the shelf bolt on solution for the soft open tailgate assist for the 1st gen. At least not that I know of.
