So I will say with the decked system and the Fas-Top traveler, you only have about 10” of vertical space to stow things. So I had to open up the soft topper for the suitcases and such to fit.

With the soft topper up, you get a lot more vertical room. I didn’t measure that.

There are no issues with the pivot system clearing the decked system. And I’m using the factory bed rails.

The soft topper has no issues stowing away above the decked system and the tonneau cover has no issues laying over the bed like it should.

If you have any questions, let me know. Glad to see someone else is interested in this setup!

Did anyone who bought a soft topper know about or consider the ACI Outlander canvas topper? It looks to be pretty nice, and is on sale for roughly the same price as the others. I’ve heard they arrive in just a couple days instead of weeks like the others, with better customer support. It has tinted side windows which I’m not sure if I like or not as compared to the plain canvas sides. https://shop.agricover.com/product/outlander

Hmm, didn't know that brand but, softopper would still be my pick since they belong to bestop who makes jeep softoppers, I trust quality of their products.

This is a great post. I had this exact question. I was planning on running a decked system with my Fas-top Combo, but was worried about the height of the storage and the canopy folded down. Good to see it fits. Are you pretty happy with this setup? Do you still feel there is a decent amount of storage between the tonneau and the top of the decked to place some quick things? groceries, that type of stuff?
Also, I am not sure if you have dogs or not. Is there enough room with the canopy up for a full size dog to stand on decked? I know it is a lot, just curious. Especially, if I am dropping over a grand on this system. Thanks!

Forgot to share them here, mounted the xtrusion overland rack over my softopper and so far I am loving this combo.

Are you pretty happy with this setup? Yes, for my needs this setup is near perfect.

Do you still feel there is a decent amount of storage between the tonneau and the top of the decked to place some quick things? groceries, that type of stuff? For the most part yes. I shop at Sam’s Club so things like paper towels and toilet paper won’t fit. Those go in the backseat. But I have a low profile storage bin I use to hold groceries or store them in the front of the decked drawers.

Also, I am not sure if you have dogs or not. Is there enough room with the canopy up for a full size dog to stand on decked? I did have two Boxers, had to put my 8.5 year old female down in April from cancer. Haven’t put the male back there yet, but that is my plan if I want to keep him out of the cab. Should be plenty of room.

I know it is a lot, just curious. Especially, if I am dropping over a grand on this system. No worries, happy to answer what I can! I picked up my decked system used for $300 so I figured it was worth a shot at seeing if it fit.

Ahhhh man. You’re making me question my plans lol I was going to go with the RSI smart cap but hesitant on the static load rating vs the bed rack since I want to put a RTT up there.. anyone else thought through pros and cons of both? (Cap + RTT vs SoftTopper + Bed Rack + RTT)

@Squatting Pigeon didn’t you just get rid of your RCI rack to go the RSI route? Would love to hear any thoughts!

@king.cong.1119 what height did you go with on the rack? It looks great!!

    Caps vs softopper+bed rack

    Caps
    Pros: more security, better aerodynamics
Cons: twice the weight of rack plus softopper, lot more expensive, less versatile

    Rack+softopper
Pros: 100lbs total weight, cheaper, versatile (can be configured to be convertible and or even removing the top section of the rack easily)
Cons: little less secure (although with the expandability of extrusion aluminum this is easily fixed), maybe look less stock so it’s more eye catchy.
PS, my rack is 24inch height.

Yea security was one of my big concerns with the soft topper. You’re talking about adding more crossbars effectively with the extrusion rack?
Also concerned about weatherproofing, I know they do a good job and keep things pretty dry, but I’m over in the PNW where it rains a touch more (lol) and was curious how they held up with extended periods of rain varying in severity

Yes, see attached plans for my own build, not sure how complicated it will be but 80/20 has all the parts I need for the latches.
    7D78C7BF-4052-4AA6-A5C1-E02D3238D7E2.jpg 747625C9-2FB8-47F5-B5B2-DE3BB2B371B2.jpg E01809B2-68EA-4548-B93D-368C9714DA8B.jpg

As far as softopper water proofing capability, from my own experience it’s going by to be more water proof than any tonneau covers and it’s going to be just bit inferior compared to the fiber glass cap I had, the main advantage of a fiber glass cap is it overhangs the truck bed on the sides so there is no chance for water intrusion, however, a metal cap doesn’t have that advantage so I say the softopper would be equally water proof compared to a one piece metal cap. Installation is key there.

That’s a great mark up and idea, something like that would definitely make me feel much better since the rear/tailgate was my biggest concern.

But that makes sense on the waterproofing aspect, I had an ARE previously as well and it did great keeping the water out, but a chore to get on and off. The softtopper just seems more reasonable to pull it off when needed. I also was looking at the Fas-Top traveler as I like the idea of having both the canopy and tonneau, but not sure how the fitment will be with the extrusion

I have a Softopper and lived in Oregon until May of 2022. I never really had any issues with rain getting in. Just make sure you play with adjustments a bit and it will be pretty good.

No I ditched my Retrax, but still have my caliraised bed rack which will go back on in the meantime.

I’m still a 50/50 split between wanting a smartcap or GFC. I guess it’s going to depend on how that checking account looks when I’m ready to pull the trigger…

That’s super helpful, I appreciate the info! I’ve seen quite a few around here but never talked to anyone about their experience.

Roger that. Those are both great options, can’t really go wrong with either. Lol if I had a dollar for how many times I’ve brought this up with my wife explaining how “practical” (that’s a big stretch, I know..) and “easy” they would make it to camp with the kids, I’d have enough to buy both setups… :anonymous:

I just picked up a used one in black for my DC after selling my snugtop. It came with a cover and a mesh back window.

I'm excited to get it on, but it came with two sets of standard clamps and no utility rail clamps. I've got an email out to softopper about buying the other clamp type from them.
    PXL_20230402_181953516.jpg PXL_20230402_182001549.jpg

Edit: I'd like to do something with magnets for the back flap. I already have 4" of ppf across the the top of my tailgate. I'd also like to know what you guys have come up with for the front flap. No way Velcro will stick long term to the bedliner. Has anyone devised a way to utilize the rail to secure the front flap?

I leave the back just kind of flapping. It hardly moves so I never saw the need to anchor it down. For the panel near the window... I'm shocked to say it but my velcro strips, mounted on spray in bed liner, are still holding. I do have two magnet blocks I place ontop but at this point they aren't doing anything.

Just wanted to add another pic of a tundra with a softopper to the collection. Im pretty stoked I found it for $500. Can’t beat the versatility if you ever carry anything taller it’s easy to put it down.IMG_9169.jpg

Great deal. I had a chance to put a set of those wheels on my truck for $500 and I hesitated. I'll probably regret that as long as I own the tundra.

I’ve realized with these trucks to not hesitate on a good deal - it will sell! I got the wheels for 1400$ and felt good about that. Was between these and the FN wheels.

Does anyone know if any of these soft toppers have the rear window (closest to the cab) that opens. Basically looking for something that when you roll down the back window you can access within the top or from the cab.

The window panel you are referring to is held in place with velcro strips. It CAN be left down but it also provides tension and support to the top and sides and Softopper does not recommend running it that way. There is a kit made to put a cut out window panel in, but it only gives you a pass through that's like 12"x12"

Ah ok. Yeah I just ordered an agri-cover outlander cover for the truck. I can’t tell though by any pictures I have seen that it is possible. Once I get it I guess I’ll try and figure it out.

I finished rigging up a brake light for mine.

    Light bar from Amazon
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093STXZTD
Zip tied to 3D printed brackets that sandwich in the Velcro of the rear window.

I sent the link above to a guy on Etsy and me printed me a few in less than 24hrs. And I have spares.

No permanent modifications of any kind to the topper. Used a third brake light tap from @Puppypunter so no permanent modifications to the truck either.

Thats the cleanest setup I've seen yet. I may need this.
