Headed over to Discount Tire to have tires mounted on wheels. Debating on whether or not I want to install TPMS on the new shoes. If I'm aired down and cruising around the boonies, is there a way to shut it off or will I just have to look at the warnings? Skip it or have them put in?

If you skip it you will have the tpms warning on all the time, not just when you are aired down.

If you get them, haggle the price down to like $30 per sensor. Don't pay the $60 they be trying to charge you.

In my 4runner I wired up a switch to toggle it on and off, was a pretty easy mod. You just had to splice a wire.

I took the sensors that came with the truck out and sealed them up in PVC pipe. Take a four a five inch section of three inch pipe and two caps to cement over each end. Drilled a hole in one end cap to stick one of the valve stems through to air the canister it up. Throw your sensors in, glue your ends on with the sensors inside and air it up when the glues sets up. Viola TPMS light is always out! Of course your'e only monitoring the air pressure in the canister.

After I posed this, I looked at how the tundra manages the TPMS, and it is a bit different in GEN2/3. With the 4Runner (GEN4) you simply had to ground the signal wire. It looks like in the newer tundras you have to provide some voltage to trick it. Looks like some people tapped into a 12v always hot line and reduced it to ~5v.
