I ordered a BAK MX4 tonneau cover and it finally arrived. It took me a couple of hours last evening to install it but that was taking my time and cutting up the box and admiring it from a distance. FedEx lost the first one that was supposed to arrive early last week and they sent it all the way to Missouri. RealTruck sent out a replacement and it arrived in two days.

It wasn't cheap but it looks better than the Tiger tri-fold cover I had and it is a bit more secure. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to clean it or protect it with? It is a synthetic canvas-type material. I think I will just wipe it down with some 303 protectant and call it good.

I can see where it will not really be waterproof, but it will work fine for me.

Same cover I have had on my truck for almost three years. Just clean it with car wash and looks great.

I have the Bakflip but I use 303 and shin etsu grease to keep the cover looking new.

I installed my x4s last week. The left corner broke off so BAK sent me four new ones. Unfortunately it isn’t sitting level and they are sending a whole new cover now. Will say they have great customer service.

I bought some 3M marine sealant for the corners to keep them on better and it seems to be holding the corners solid, much stronger.

My right corner piece broke off by install shop. New one sent, installed by shop. It is gone after rolling it back. It always seemed a bit loose. New one ordered by shop, we'll see :fingerscrossed:

I ended up re-installing or just readjusting mine today. I had some aftermarket bed strap hooks that weren't letting the rails sit all the way down. I turned the hooks upside down and that let the rails set better on the truck. I then had to add some shims under the rails to get them to sit square and have the tailgate close. The ends of my rails sit just on top of the tailgate, I am unsure if that is correct?

I used the double 1/4 inch rubber gasket they included on the under side back lip of the cover to help seal the cover to the tailgate cap.

My passenger side plastic corner cover came cracked in the box and I was unable to repair it. I emailed BAK industries for a new one. I think this is one of the weak points and they must deal with a lot of broken ones.

BAK will send you two replacements for each side. I’d recommend when you get them that you buy the 3M Marine Sealant Adhesive and apply them to the tabs when you reinstall. It’ll be solid then. The fact that they send so many replacements means they know they are a weak point.

The plastic corners are also a pretty weak security point too. All you need to do is break off the tabs and then unhook the catch underneath using a screwdriver. I would have likes to have seen a solid aluminum bar across the entire back along the tailgate cap.

Agreed. I wouldn’t be surprised that the next revision solves this.
