The Center for the Environment and Welfare, a new think tank dedicated to sustainability and animal welfare, released a report exposing the ASPCA, a nonprofit organization formed to prevent animal cruelty, for deceptively using donors' dollars to support "radical and elitist" anti-farmer policies instead of funding animal shelters.

...a new bombshell report this week revealing that the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals only provides 2% of its total budget to pet shelters throughout the United States, despite having hundreds of millions of dollars and providing many employees with six-figure salaries.

According to CEW, the ASPCA's most recent tax filings revealed that the nonprofit had $390 million in revenue and $575 million in assets, including roughly $11 million in offshore Caribbean accounts.

"The same filings show that only about 2% of the ASPCA's budget is given as grants to community pet shelters," CEW reported.

The report alleged that 259 ASPCA employees made six-figure incomes, including the organization's CEO, Matt Bershadker, who made $856,785.

Despite its misleading name, the ASPCA only operates one animal adoption center and is not affiliated with local SPCAs, CEW stated.

The think tank also slammed the nonprofit for attempting to implement harmful agricultural policies that would further increase food costs for Americans.

"In addition to exposing the ASPCA's dishonest marketing, CEW is also calling out the ASPCA's attempts to commandeer the Farm Bill by promoting radical and elitist agriculture policies that will hurt farmers, hurt consumers, and drive up food costs without improving animal welfare," the think tank wrote in a recent press release.

"There's a euthanasia crisis in this country, with more than a million animals killed, euthanized in the U.S. each year, and you've got this group sitting on $300 million in investments," said CEW's executive director Jack Hubbard.

So many organizations are just trying to get donations by jerking on your heart and they have no interest in solving the problems. It really is quite sad. Their commercials are brutal to watch as well. Who would shoot video of those animals instead of dropping everything to help them. I guess that kind of answers the question.

It appears that data on Charity Navigator isn't current though.

Yeah I hate it when a millionaire comes on TV asking me to donate. I always yell at the TV and say I’ll donate 10% if you donate 10%, millionaire!

I've seen so many scams legitimized by our scam of a government, I don't give to anyone anymore unless I know them money managers personally. I give to my church, our local volunteer fire department, and some local charities that feed the homeless. And the phone calls you may get claiming to be for widows of former LEO's? I found out that at least some of them are lying fronts for, well, basically communists.

I recently went down to the local county shelter (which is now overcrowded with 526 dogs, not including cats) and picked up a sweet little mixed breed for $14. She was spayed, had all her shots, microchipped, and came with a bag of goodies that were donated.

With the economy being what it is, the shelter's donations have taken a hit and that is probably the case for so many others. Single digit percentage contributions of millions isn't acceptable and the ASPCA has had a number of reports over the years that they've kept a large portion of their budget out of the hands of shelters in dire need.

I had the same reaction to Wounded Warriers after it came to light that they were holding conventions in high-dollar convention centers, flying executives around first class, high salaries, etc., and falling short in actual support for veterans. Despicable in my opinion and they will never get another red cent from me. We choose our charities carefully, tend to support locals, and do not respond to telemarketer calls. I don't need Covid test kits, hearing aids, a knee/back brace, a walk-in shower/tub, etc. etc. I have a land line due to being the owner of a small firearms business and I have to have all business-related phone calls screened by my answering machine.

Thank you for the information! We have supported the ASPCA in the past but this information has caused us to rethink our support. We get tons of mail from them soliciting funds and they are about the only national organization we have supported in the past. It is getting increasingly difficult to trust anyone.

Best to donate to your local struggling shelter that probably only gets support from local benefactors/companies. Years ago, when I was struggling and going to school, I couldn't donate money so I volunteered at a no-kill shelter. I think I got more out of that than the dogs did haha

Very true, Sir! They have tried hard to re-gain the trust of folks but trust is kind of like virginity. Once it is gone it is gone. I realize that this information is dated however fool me once shame on you.....etc.. you know the rest...
