Well - a lot of bickering, fingerprinting and name calling. We FINALY came to an agreement - sellers would agree to “rent” to us for 3 days - but if we didn’t close within 3 days they are keeping the good faith money and we have 24 hours to leave. I honestly felt it was complete BS as it was THEIR title agency who created the problem - but what choice did we have ?!?

So asked them to soften up a bit and they refused - so we had to accept. 35 minutes later get the call - mortgage gave clear to close and wants us to come in on Monday. So basically - a whole lot of arguing over terms of the “rental” for nada. So good news is back on track just delayed by a day. Bad news (for sellers) - there is no way in hell they are getting those cabinets or anything else from me at this point. Playing hardball sometimes bites you in the ass people.

To be continued with the title agent and realtors. I have a very good contact with department of insurance and they will be hearing from me on Monday about the title agency. Realtors - I don’t really know how to play - they obviously made the most of the deal and at least contributed to the problem - but aren’t as “regulated” as insurance. I mean - does a bad Yelp review really hurt them that much (like an investigator going through your finances from DOI). I guess complain to their agency owners - I really don’t think what I’m asking is overly unfair (I asked for $500 - to be paid to the movers who had to wait 6 hours for them to allow them to unload and $500 to the contractor who now has to wait a day to start work so his 3 guys are basically not making anything for a day and getting an unplanned day off).

Yeah, as we used to say in the Navy, "F*** 'em and feed 'em fish heads." They're screwing you over like that, they get nothing other than what is contractually agreed upon.

Well - it’s done (we think).

Signed papers yesterday AM and everything has been transferred.

This has got to be the weirdest and most difficult real estate deal I’ve ever been involved in and per our realtor the weirdest he has ever seen. These freaking sellers - I have just NEVER seen the likes.

So after we sign - I’m thinking that’s it / we are done - nope. Their realtor pops in and says “now I’ve got to get the sellers in here to sign - I’m going to tell them again there is no renegotiation and if they don’t sign I quit and can’t protect them from the lawsuit they are going to get hit with” - I’m just like WTF?!? - turns out they didn’t actually sign before us and sprung it on their realtor over the weekend like they should renegotiate price !!

Basically - found out it was an older couple - had built the home custom 20 years ago - now at a point where they needed to downsize and drop expenses - so selling and buying a cheap condo was at least partially financially driven. They started trying to FSBO the place - and pissed off more than one interested buyer and their realtors - tried to argue they wouldn’t pay a buyer’s commission to an agent and in general just made life hell on anyone trying to view the place while they lived here.

Their agent got involved as she was listing agent on the condo they bought - said sellers were a complete pain but thought they could manage them - wrong. Tried to ask well above market to account for the commission and the mortgage balance and had ZERO offers before they dropped price. Even then - it’s a rural area and limited number of buyers for newer/higher end homes and the fact they pissed off basically everyone of those meant unless someone new entered the market meant it would sit. Fortunately for them - we came in recently.

It’s still a nice home - but my god I’ve never seen someone be so damn irrational in their negotiations and how they sold something. Just super weird that they were both worried we would walk from the deal - but then would suggest they try to get a few dollars more for things (literally- dollars - they wanted utilities turned off the second we moved in as they didn’t want to pay for the electricity we used over the weekend - which amounted to under $10). Power company wouldn’t change until there was a change in ownership or rental agreement on file and they wanted they wanted their realtor to get a meter reading and bill us (they said they told them they did - and will just pay them their selves to get rid of the clients from hell).

I have no idea how people like this get through life. Seriously - it must be a freaking miserable experience. Worry and stress over every stupid little detail and cent. Guess the idea of getting their asses sued and spending more money scared them though to just shut up and fulfill their end of the deal. At least we are done now and hopefully never cross paths with these people again.
